About the Position
The Norad-funded project “Development and Scaling of Sustainable Feeds for Resilient Aquatic Food Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa (FASA)” is in progress in Nigeria, Zambia and Kenya, with additional research activities conducted in Malaysia and Sweden. WorldFish is seeking a nationally recruited Postdoc or Scientist (Fish Feeds and Nutrition) to support the achievement of the project goals in Malaysia and the other project countries. The primary purpose of this position is to achieve the research activities of the FASA project in Malaysia, under the direction of WorldFish Project Leader and Senior Scientist based in Malaysia.
The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team of experts from different backgrounds, including fish nutrition, gender, climate change, scaling of innovations, science communication, rural development and bioprocesses. The candidate will focus on conducting high quality applied research on fish nutrition and feeds in the laboratory and occasionally on-farm. The emphasis is on testing novel local ingredients, assessing the nutritional quality and digestibility of these ingredients, the training of aquaculture stakeholders and the communication, outreach and publication of scientific and technical articles arising from the completed work.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Design, execute and report on the laboratory and on-farm fish feeds and nutrition experiments, including digestibility and nutrient requirement experiments.
- Achieve the research deliverables of the FASA project in Malaysia.
- Publish technical, scientific and outreach articles.
- Work collaboratively with the Project Leader, the Feed team, and other Bioscience teams based at the HQ in Malaysia.
- Develop productive partnerships to further feeds research in Malaysia, through key international and national research institutes and universities.
- Build productive relations with investors and development partners from public and private sectors for the scaling of research results.
- Mentor BSc/MSc students and interns from national and international universities and organizations.
- Plan, organize, execute and report on project progress in dialogue with the senior scientist as well as junior staff/employees and external partners.
- Contribute to resource mobilization for further feeds work in Malaysia and in other countries.
This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:
- PhD in Aquaculture, Aquaculture Nutrition, or related Animal Nutrition fields, with at least 2 years of relevant research experience.
- Strong scientific track record, including peer-reviewed publications and proven skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.
- Technical expertise in aquaculture nutrition, such as nutrient digestibility, nutrient requirement estimation, feed formulation, and feed production.
- Experience with laboratory and research facility management, including both wet labs (research trials) and dry labs (analytical work).
- Hands-on skills in proximate composition analysis of feed ingredients, fish samples, and finished feeds.
- Experience working with the aquaculture sector and/or feed industry, with the ability to engage effectively with local and international stakeholders.
- Collaboration and teamwork, with proven ability to work across disciplines (e.g., animal health, genetics, human nutrition, value chains, climate change).
- Ability to lead and manage projects independently, while also supervising and mentoring staff or students.
- Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English and the ability to share scientific and technical knowledge with diverse audiences.
- Passion for impact-driven research, motivated to contribute to sustainable aquaculture solutions that benefit communities and the environment.

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position and WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package including comprehensive benefits (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, employer provident fund contribution, paid leave, and others. The duration of the contract will initially be for a three-year period with possibility for extension, depending on funding and performance.
