About the Opportunity

The Director, Data & Insights will shape and influence the organisation’s data and digital strategies and oversee the overall vision, strategy, and execution of the Data and Insights team, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives and evolving a culture of data excellence.
What You'll Do
As Director, Data & Insights, you will have a strong track record of generating data and insights that inform strategic business decisions and drive significant impact. Your team will gather, manage, and interpret data across multiple systems and sources aligned with Minderoo’s Focus Areas and Impact Missions to drive and support an ambitious program of research, policy, evaluation, advocacy, development, and systems change. As leader of this function, you will play a key role in harnessing Minderoo’s data as a strategic asset.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction in the formulation and implementation of a data and AI strategy that aligns with the mission and strategy of Minderoo Foundation.
- Collaborate with Minderoo Foundation data professionals to drive delivery of large cross-team initiatives and projects from ideation to completion.
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to foster innovation, a data-driven culture and promote data literacy across the foundation
- Represent and advocate for Minderoo’s mission, especially with respect to data and insights, on a national and international stage as opportunities present.
- Develop an understanding of the Focus Areas and Impact Missions to foster innovative data solutions.
- Identify and develop key strategic data or technology partnerships and external opportunities.
- Build the capacity of Minderoo, and the sector more broadly, to access and use Government data (e.g., linked data) to support a culture of evidence and learning.
- Keep abreast of latest industry trends and best practices and identify opportunities/challenges and provide timely, relevant, and expert advice to executive leadership and Focus Areas.
- Establish organisational processes and best practices to facilitate collaboration and engagement on data and AI initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment that nurtures the professional growth of team members.
Qualifications
Who You Are
You will have significant experience as a data and analytics leader, with a track record of successfully building and scaling data teams and turning data into insights that tackle ambitious outcomes. Experience in the impact sector will be viewed favourably.
- An inspiring leader who fosters and actively contributes to a safe, values aligned, mission-oriented culture, brings diverse teams together, delegates and empowers people to do their best work, maintaining a focus on results, accountability, integrity and impact.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and inspire and motivate teams to achieve ambitious goals.
- Experience designing and delivering large, complex data projects and transformations.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and able to convert ideas into solutions, including product commercialisation.
- Knowledge of data governance and privacy best practices and industry standards
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with ambitious milestones.
- Broad familiarity and experience with relevant approaches, platforms and technologies across data, AI and IT domains including cloud and high-performance computing, statistical and machine learning methodologies, MLOps, data visualisation, and interpretability & reproducibility.
- Fifteen (15) years’ experience (or equivalent) in data sciences, technology, research and development, or related fields.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science or related. Preferred: PhD, MBA, MS
