About the Position

SkyTruth is seeking a talented and mission-driven Content Strategist to lead the creation of compelling content that communicates our impact and elevates our voice in the conservation and climate space. Whether it’s drafting a blog post, shaping web copy, developing product messaging, or crafting narratives for funders and journalists, your work will help bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and real-world environmental change.

Reporting to the Chief Impact Officer, you will translate SkyTruth’s technology and insights into clear, compelling content that resonate with SkyTruth’s target audiences, including environmental advocates, journalists, funders, and government partners. You will play a key role in refining our voice, strengthening our brand, and ensuring every piece of content aligns with our mission and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content Strategy & Development. Drive content planning and production across platforms (website, blog, newsletter, social media, and product platforms) in close collaboration with Creative Director and other team members, translating complex technical work into clear, engaging narratives that align with SkyTruth’s brand, strategy, and audience needs.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration. Partner with Impact, Technology, and Operations teams to develop and refine content, contributing clear, compelling language for impact stories, insights, proposals, product updates, presentations, and other content, acting as a bridge between technical advancement and audience engagement.
  • Product Marketing. Support go-to-market strategies for SkyTruth products like Cerulean and the 30x30 Progress Tracker, in close collaboration with Product Manager, by translating product capabilities, updates, and features into accessible, user-focused content (e.g., launch posts, user guides, explainers, blog features, case studies, video tutorials, UX design copywriting).
  • Content Performance & Optimization. Track content performance and audience insights to guide strategy, support the content calendar, and optimize reach, clarity, and impact across communications campaigns, including digital advertising optimization (e.g. Google Ads).
  • Event Support. Coordinate content needs for SkyTruth’s presence at international conferences, webinars, and key events.
  • Additional Responsibilities. Take on other duties as assigned to support the communications function and the overall success of the organization.

Key Attributes and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in content strategy, communications, or editorial roles, ideally in the environmental, tech, or nonprofit sectors.
  • Familiarity with issues related to climate, conservation, biodiversity, or environmental justice.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Proven ability to rapidly draft, iterate, and refine content in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience developing and managing written and visual content across digital platforms.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Experience using content management systems and working within brand guidelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and adapt to a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Highly proficient in English language.

Desirable

  • Experience collaborating with a cross-sectional team of technical and non-technical team members in technology product development environment.
  • Digital marketing, including Hubspot, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Google Ads, and LinkedIn Ads experience.
  • Proficiency in another language.
  • Previous experience working remotely or in a globally distributed team.
  • Visual storytelling, basic graphic design skills, and/or UX design review experience, including familiarity with Figma.
  • Experience with quantitative product analytics tools, technical documentation, and feedback platforms (e.g., Heap, Publer, GA4, Jira Service Manager, Canny, Confluence)
  • Familiarity with agile software development best practices.
  • Experience messaging channel partnerships related to APIs and other backend tech.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time salaried position with an expected salary range of $90,000–$110,000 with final compensation depending on skills and experience. Location

SkyTruth is a fully remote organization working across multiple time zones, so working hours may vary according to geography as well as operational and personal needs. Candidates can be located anywhere in the United States and must be able to reliably accommodate meetings across North American time zones. The supervisor for this position is based in the Pacific time zone. Periodic travel may be necessary, and team members are expected to attend in-person team retreats that are typically held twice per year.

Our Interview Process

Top qualified candidates will be invited to schedule an initial 60-minute interview with our hiring manager. If advanced, you will be asked to complete a 1 to 2 hour take home exercise, followed by a panel interview with other members of the SkyTruth team.
