About the Communications Team
It’s the job of the Seafish communications team to promote the work we do to all of our stakeholders which include our staff, our levy payers, the wider seafood industry and policymakers.
The Seafish communications team provides colleagues working across seven industry priority areas with the support they need to amplify their positive work to a wider audience.
The team is made up of two functions: a PR and communications function focused on campaign management, internal communications and content creation.
There is also a channels function focused on the management of digital channels, brand and analytics, CRM and email marketing.
We are a busy department and also regularly manage media requests from mainstream and trade titles and broadcasters.

The main dimensions of the role are:
- Supporting the communications team with external communications campaigns by helping to identify opportunities, assisting with campaign planning and delivery, and creating engaging and accessible content.
- Helping to develop engaging and accessible content for sharing across multiple channels, including website, media and social media.
- Providing administrative support to assist with planning, delivery and evaluation of external communications campaigns.
- Scanning the external environment to identify potential communication opportunities or advocates and feeding ideas back to the team.
- Supporting the Internal Communications Manager to deliver staff-focused updates and campaigns.
Key accountabilities will be:
- Helping with delivery of external Seafish communications campaigns by attending meetings and updating campaign management tools.
- Liaising with colleagues and wider stakeholders to co-ordinate and collate information required for content and campaigns.
- Supporting content development by drafting copy, using design tools and templates to create assets or providing information to agencies.
- Proofing and editing copy ensuring our tone of voice and content guidelines are followed.
- Supporting the PR and Communications Manager with media activity by reviewing coverage, monitoring media stories for opportunities, and helping to keep press lists up to date.
- Helping with comms calendar management by feeding in suggestions for potential opportunities or content creation and sharing.
Additional responsibilities will be to:
- Manage own workload and priorities on a day-to-day basis.
- Support campaign management and updating tools as required.
- Record meeting notes and actions and sharing in timely manner.
- Make sound judgements when responding to enquiries internally and externally.
- Recognise when to escalate an issue or problem.
- Work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Essential working relationships will include:
Internal relationships
- Reporting to the PR and Communications Manager
- Working very closely with the Head of Communications and wider Communications team.
- Regular communication with wider colleagues across Seafish while working on campaign planning and content development.
External relationships
- Communicating with industry stakeholders, including engagement with campaign participants and potential ambassadors.
- Liaising with appointed suppliers, agencies and contractors for projects as required.
To be a suitable candidate for this role you should have:
Essential
- A relevant qualification or demonstrated practical experience in PR and Communications
- Basic project management skills
- Content writing skills with the ability to adapt content depending on audience and channel
- Excellent attention to detail and desire to achieve great results
- Competence in using the Microsoft Office suite of programmes (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong communications skills and confidence to liaise with colleagues and stakeholders
Desirable
- Some experience with simple design software (for example Canva)
- An interest in the UK media landscape and on what makes a good story
- Experience using Microsoft teams and SharePoint

Some out-of-office hours working at events and travelling in the UK.

All roles within Seafish are graded and have defined salary bands. This role is a grade 2 post, and the starting salary is £22,942. A new member’s appointment on the pay spine is dependent on the experience they bring to the role when they start. New candidates normally start at the lower end of the range unless they can demonstrate considerable experience in the requirements of the role.
