About OceanHub Africa: OceanHub Africa is the foremost enabler of ocean-impact entrepreneurship in Africa. We support, connect, and invest in Africa’s Ocean Impact Ecosystem. As we launch the continent’s first ocean-impact fund, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Investment Director to lead our pre-seed and seed investment initiatives and contribute to the launch and success of this exciting initiative, having a leadership role within the organization.

Position Overview: The Investment Director will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, negotiating deals, structuring investments, presenting to the investment committee, and managing investments through to exit. They will also have the responsibility of building the future team and manage one or two analysts, in a second phase. This role requires a deep understanding of venture capital, strong analytical skills, an entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for fostering innovative ocean-impact startups in Africa. Subsequently, it is anticipated that the chosen candidate be incentivised on the performance of the fund (carried interests) and grow into becoming a fund partner, based on performance and at the company’s discretion.

Key Responsibilities: Deal Sourcing: ● Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of potential investment opportunities in the ocean-impact sector. ● Network with founders, entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders to identify high-potential startups. ● Attend industry events, conferences, and networking sessions to establish and strengthen relationships within the ecosystem. Opportunity Analysis: ● Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investments, including market research, financial assessment. ● Prepare detailed investment cases and present recommendations to the investment committee. ● Utilize industry knowledge and sector expertise to evaluate the potential and risks of investment opportunities. Investment Negotiation: ● Lead negotiations with prospective investees to secure favourable terms and conditions for the fund. ● Work closely with legal advisors to draft and finalize investment agreements. Financial Structuring: ● Design and implement appropriate financial structures for investments, considering the specific needs and growth potential of each startup. ● Prepare structuring memoranda and detailed financial models to support investment decisions. Investment Monitoring and Reporting: ● Oversee portfolio companies, providing strategic guidance and support to drive growth and success. ● Monitor performance, conduct regular reviews, and prepare comprehensive reports for the investment committee. ● Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and maintain accurate records of all investment activities. Exit Management: ● Develop and execute exit strategies to maximize returns for the fund. ● Identify potential buyers or partners for portfolio companies and manage the exit process. ● Work with portfolio companies to prepare for and navigate the exit process effectively.

Qualifications: ● Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field as a minimum. MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred. ● Minimum of 7 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or a similar investment-focused role. ● Proven track record of sourcing, evaluating, and managing early-stage investments. ● Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct in-depth financial analysis and market research. ● Excellent negotiation skills and experience structuring investment deals. ● Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry stakeholders. ● Deep understanding of the African startup ecosystem, particularly within the ocean-impact sector, is highly desirable. ● Exceptional communication and presentation skills. ● Entrepreneurial spirit. ● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and familiarity with financial modeling tools.

Working Conditions: ● Full-time position based in Cape Town (South Africa), with flexibility for two days remote work per week. ● Flexibility for occasional travel to attend industry events, visit portfolio companies, and meet with stakeholders. ● Compensation based on profile & experience.
