Spend your summer at the coast helping educate and engage the community in coastal conservation at the Southern Branch (Southeast office in Wrightsville Beach). This opportunity offers hands-on experience in a nonprofit setting, including rebuilding oyster reefs and coastal habitats. Check back in December 2026 for information on how to apply for a Summer 2027 internship.Details – Intern Functions: Assist education, advocacy, and restoration program staff with research, design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of regional projects; help plan and promote volunteer, education, and fundraising events; assist with digital marketing and contribute to the website and social media; support community engagement at the Coastal Education Center and recruit new members; represent the Federation at public events, festivals, and workshops; assist with volunteer management; help develop and implement educational activities on coastal habitat restoration; gain hands-on training in environmental stewardship (e.g., rain garden installations, oyster reef builds); assist with office operations.Compensation: Interns receive a taxable stipend of $5,760, provided in a lump sum to host organizations.Eligibility: Must be a North Carolina native/resident at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.; a rising sophomore, junior, or senior (not graduating seniors; graduate students are not eligible); Pell Grant eligible in the academic year of application (SAR screenshot required). DACA and undocumented students are eligible to apply.
