Do you want to make a real impact on the future of our oceans through powerful storytelling, digital campaigns, and events that reach thousands? If so, this could be the opportunity for you.

We’re looking for a passionate and motivated Senior Communications Officer to join our Japan team for a fixed-term period of 2 years. You’ll help raise awareness of the MSC’s mission — to ensure our oceans are teeming with life for generations to come — by delivering digital content, managing media relations, and supporting local engagement activities. Your work will directly support our vision of making sustainable seafood the easy, trusted choice for everyone.

This is your chance to be part of a global organisation making real, measurable impact on ocean health and sustainability.

At the MSC, you’ll join a collaborative and purpose-driven team based in Tokyo, working closely with colleagues across Asia Pacific and beyond. You’ll contribute to high-profile public campaigns, contribute to engaging events like World Ocean Day, and connect with diverse partners including NGOs, media, retailers, and seafood lovers. We offer you hybrid working (50% in the office per month), an international work environment and the opportunity to grow your career with meaning.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Experience in communications — particularly across digital channels, media engagement, or public-facing events.

  • Excellent writing skills in native-level Japanese and confidence communicating in English within an international team.

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage projects, coordinate stakeholders, and meet deadlines.

  • A proactive and collaborative mindset, ready to contribute ideas and take initiative in a dynamic setting.

If you feel inspired by the MSC’s mission and want to help protect the ocean through creative, impactful communication — we’d love to hear from you!

We’re an international organisation and our employees all demonstrate a level of cultural awareness, and value the diverse views and approaches relevant to the MSC program.

The successful candidate will need to work from the Tokyo office for a minimum of 50% of their working time each month The remaining time can be worked from home. During the onboarding process, hybrid work may require more in-office work than remote work.

Please be aware, we are only able to progress with candidates who already have the right to work in the location(s) specified in this advert. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
