Seeking our new Geospatial Data Analyst - Ocean Ecology!
HUB Ocean is seeking an accomplished Geospatial Data Analyst - rooted in marine science - to join our dedicated ocean data science team. You will generate information that illuminate ecosystems and human activities at local to global scales through data analysis and collaboration with scientists and domain experts. Tasks include delivering custom analytics that help clients understand their ocean-nature impact, developing data products, and contributing to an impactful ocean-data catalog for science. This role reports to the Director of the Data team.
Deadline: We will monitor incoming applications, and start the active recruitment process in August.
What you’ll do:
- Analyze and process geospatial ocean data using Python and GIS tools
- Assist in data collection and connect with global science community
- Develop spatial models combining habitat, species, and environmental data
- Collaborate directly with clients to integrate their asset data with our ocean datasets
- Create custom analytics and visualizations for ocean nature impact metrics
- Contribute to our proprietary data platform and modeling capabilities
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, and presentations of analytical results
- Meet with clients to define geospatial requirements and provide customized solutions
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Geography, Environmental Science or related field
- Proficiency in advanced spatial data analysis (python required, R bonus) and GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS)
- Understanding of marine spatial ecology concepts
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with clients
- Passion for the ocean and reducing environmental impact
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage workflow on deadline
- Fluency in English
We’d love to see:
- Multidisciplinary experience with marine datasets
- Knowledge of spatial modeling techniques and statistical methods
- Knowledge of Area Based Management Tools
- Previous client-facing or consulting experience
- Familiarity with remote sensing and satellite imagery analysis
- Knowledge of marine spatial planning tools
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to identify and develop opportunities
- Ability to be a self-starter and work in an agile, start-up environment
- Strong growth mindset with curiosity, appetite to learn, and a willingness to try new things
