As our Staff DevOps Engineer/Platform Engineer you will provide technical expertise and hands-on skills in CI/CD, infrastructure and operation of our Ocean Data Platform.
Staff DevOps Engineer/Platform Engineer
Location: Greater Oslo area, Fornebu
Job Description:
We are seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer/Platform Engineer with a strong background in DevOps methodologies and experience in building and maintaining modern cloud-native infrastructures. As a Staff DevOps Engineer/Platform Engineer at HUB Ocean, you will play a crucial role in developing, managing, and scaling our Ocean Data Platform, using cutting-edge technologies and best practices.
Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of our platform by implementing robust CI/CD pipelines, deploying infrastructure using modern orchestration tools, and maintaining a high level of observability. At present, our backend code is in python, and we use asynchronous io.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure cloud-native infrastructure using Kubernetes (k8s)
- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment and integration of software components
- Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability of the platform using best-in-class DevOps practices
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance, deployment strategies, and monitoring capabilities
- Utilize tools and technologies such as Grafana, clickhouse, Docker, Redis, Redpanda /NATs/RabbitMQ, Traefik/Nginx, and Terraform to optimize infrastructure
- Champion security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards
- Work closely with software developers to identify and resolve deployment and infrastructure issues, and incidents
- Continuously drive automation and process improvements to streamline development and deployment workflows
- Participate in code reviews, documentation, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of developers of DevOps
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Senior/Staff/Principal DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, or similar role
- Rich experience in building and managing highly available, scalable, cloud-native and secure infrastructures
- Rich hands-on experience with Azure, Kubernetes (K8s), helm charts and containerization technologies (Docker)
- Proficiency in using CI/CD tools like github actions, ArgoCD or equivalent
- Deep understanding of networking concepts and experience with ingress (e.g., Nginx, Traefik)
- Experience with monitoring, observability, tracing tools like Grafana, Clickhouse, coroot
- Familiarity with message queues (e.g.NATS, Redpanda, Google Cloud PubSub, Azure Event Bus, RabbitMQ) and caching systems (e.g., Redis)
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Nice to Have:
- Solid understanding of modern infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Terraform
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure -preferrable , AWS, GCP,) and their managed services
- Prior experience in the data or environmental science domain with experience of Prefect/Dask
- Understanding of search engine i.e Elasticsearch architecture
