HUB Ocean is an ocean tech start-up, established as an independent foundation and dedicated to unlocking the power of data to protect and restore ocean health. Our mission is to improve ocean decision-making by unlocking the value of data, technology, and collaboration.
We have built a high-performing, cloud-based geospatial Ocean Data Platform that provides scientists, experts, and organizations with seamless access to fit-for-purpose ocean data from both public and private sources. The world’s ocean data — and our Ocean Data Platform — are at the core of everything we do.

Senior Data Project Manager – Ocean Data Platform

Are you someone who enjoys working at the intersection of data, technology, and real-world use cases — and who gets energy from working directly with users to turn their needs into practical data solutions?

As our Senior Data Project Manager – Ocean Data Platform, you will play a central role in shaping how data flows through the platform and how users actually derive value from it.

You will combine hands-on data workflow development with customer-facing interaction, ensuring that our platform not only works technically, but also supports meaningful and scalable use cases across science, industry, and policy.

You will work closely with users, partners and internal teams to co-design workflows, support platform adoption, and translate real-world needs into structured, reusable data solutions - reflecting how we build and evolve the platform.

We strongly encourage all applicants to register and explore the Ocean Data Platform, as it sits at the heart of this role. While occasional remote work may be possible, this is predominantly an on-site role based in Fornebu, where we value close collaboration across data, product and growth teams.

What you’ll do:

Project Data workflows

  • Design and manage data workflows across ingestion, validation, structuring, metadata, and access in collaboration with our platform team
  • Ensure project datasets are analysis-ready, well-organised, and reusable by the project users
  • Support consistency, quality control and scalability of data pipelines for the project users with our platform team

User engagement & use case development

  • Work directly with platform users (researchers, partners, internal teams) to:
    • Understand their use cases, workflows and challenges
    • Translate these into clear data and workflow requirements
  • Facilitate use-case discovery sessions and project scoping discussions with users
  • Help users successfully adopt the platform for data discovery, analysis, and collaboration

Customer success & delivery coordination

  • Act as a bridge between users and internal teams, ensuring use cases are delivered successfully
  • Support and coordinate use-case delivery across data, product and engineering teams
  • Monitor progress, identify risks, and ensure timely and high-quality outcomes
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for users during projects and collaborations

Feedback loop & platform improvement

  • Gather structured feedback from users and translate it into actionable insights for the platform and data team
  • Help prioritise improvements to data structures, workflows and user experience
  • Contribute to defining what “good” looks like for publishing, metadata and workflow design

What we’re looking for:

Required qualifications

  • Experience in data management, data workflows, or data platform environments
  • Experience in customer-facing roles such as customer success, consulting, pre-sales, or solution delivery
  • Strong ability to translate user needs into structured data or technical solutions
  • Solid proficiency in:
    • Data pipelines management(ingestion, transformation, validation)
    • Metadata, data structuring, and data quality
    • Python (R a bonus) and working with APIs
  • Previous track record in project management and ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills, including explaining complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working with:
    • Geospatial, environmental, or scientific data
  • Familiarity with user-driven product or platform development
  • Experience working with ocean, environmental, or scientific data domains, including private and/or publicly-funded research projects, or similar contexts

Why HUB Ocean

  • A purpose-driven organisation contributing to better ocean decision-making
  • A highly collaborative environment across data, technology, and global partnerships
  • Minimal bureaucracy, with a strong focus on speed, ownership and impact
  • Opportunities to shape a next-generation data platform at an early stage
  • Competitive salary and benefits (including pension, insurance, and more)

HUB Ocean is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that diverse perspectives drive better ideas, stronger collaboration, and greater impact for the ocean.
