- Provide leadership, support, and care for our Restoration Technicians focusing on team wellbeing and cohesion.
- Perform on the ground training on approaches to work and specialized equipment through day-to-day activities
- Coordinate work schedules through organizing personnel and field equipment on multiple sites
- Meet task deliverables on time and budget
Essential Qualifications:
- Experience in natural resources management, vegetation management, forestry, or landscape construction/maintenance
- Experience leading crews or volunteers
- Experience with hand tools and specialized power equipment including brush cutters, chainsaws, and chippers
- Experience leading manual, mechanical and chemical treatments for invasive plant control
- Ability to identify native and non-native plant species in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Understands OSHA safety regulations
- A California driver's license and the ability to operate large trucks and small equipment
- Must be able to consistently lift more than 50 pounds
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
Management tasks include:
- Supervise and direct field personnel including establishing schedules and work assignments.
- Work with Senior Contractor and Project Manager to track task budgets, work performed and project progress documentation.
- Enforce OSHA safety regulations, safety orders, and supervision of jobsite PPE.
- Conduct job site safety analysis and record regular tailgate safety meetings.
Specific field duties include:
- Conducting ecological fuel breaks in wildland and urban interface locations
- Performing various aspects of habitat restoration including: vegetation management, habitat restoration, native plant installation and protection, irrigation design and installation, and project site maintenance.
- Mapping invasive species population distribution and conducting control efforts
- Performing streambank stabilization and bioengineered erosion control installations
- Tracking and documenting work through photo point monitoring and reporting
- Designing and conducting research to provide meaningful information to the field of restoration
- Attending program and staff meetings, and periodic check-ins with Project and Program Managers
- Occasionally working on the weekends and being available for occasional overnight stays with advanced notice
