We are seeking a self-driven individual to fulfill the needs of two projects, with half time spent on assisting with coral reef field and laboratory research and half time on the management and reporting of a fast-moving, multi-investigator research project. The ideal candidate will have coral reef field experience, be experienced with multi-tasking multiple diverse projects, and have experience coordinating projects and writing reports. Experience working with others or in a group setting is also required.Job Description
Essential Functions & Duties
This person will spend half their time conducting coral reef field and laboratory research and logistics pertaining to field trips with the Apprill Lab or Reef Solutions Initiative team members. The other half of their time in this position will be spent coordinating science and project deliverables with the Apprill laboratory in the Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry Department. We are seeking a motivated individual with relevant experience in coral reef science and project coordination and reporting who is proficient at multi-tasking. The candidate must be self-driven and able to work in a group setting as well as independently.
Routine duties will include:
Conducting measurements of coral reefs in the field
Analyzing coral and water samples in the laboratory using various molecular and chemical analysis approaches
Managing task lists, meeting scheduling and reporting of a fast moving, multi-investigator project
Planning and managing field logistics
Training students and staff when applicable
Non-Essential Functions
Performs other duties as deemed necessary
Required Experience & Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science, Oceanography, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or a related field and at least two years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Experience & Education
AAUS Scientific Diving Certification
Small boating certification (or equivalent experience)
Project coordination experience

Physical Requirements
This position will include some lifting (up to 25 lbs) and the ability to manipulate items within an anaerobic hood environment.
Sea Duty
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to lift less than 25 lbs independently, 2-3 times per day; carry 25-50 lbs, 3-4 times per day. Visual abilities to include near, far, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to ascend/descend a vertical ladder through a 20” diameter hatch opening. Hearing requirements include the ability to hear and respond to instructions, communicate effectively in loud areas (pier/dock, warehouse). Other physical tasks include occasional prolonged standing/walking; use of hands for basic /fine grasping and manipulation, repetitive motion, reaching above and below the shoulders, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, twisting, and stooping. Other occupational requirements include talking, traveling, working around others, and with others. Will be exposed to dust or other irritants and electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards. Physical duties are subject to change.
