About West Africa Blue

West Africa contains 14% of the world’s remaining mangroves. Along with the immense carbon sequestration potential, these coastal ecosystems support a diverse amount of terrestrial and marine fauna include IUCN Red List Threatened Species, such as Hawksbill Turtles, Green Turtles, Slender-Snouted Crocodiles, the West African Manatee and The Timneh parrot. Yet these important coastal ecosystems are under increasing threat due to both climate and human activities.

As a result, West Africa Blue (“Blue”) is on a mission to work hand-in-hand with communities and governments to preserve, restore and sustainably manage coastal ecosystems in West Africa through the development of high integrity coastal blue carbon projects. Blue was co-founded in 2022 by Solon Capital Partners, a leading, West Africa-focused investor established in 2010 to provide capital and support to high-impact organizations throughout the region.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Community Programs Manager to support Blue’s team in developing blue carbon projects in The Republic of Guinea. You will be joining a team that is passionate, collaborative, and fun. We share a sense of adventure and are united by the challenge of helping overcome one of the world’s biggest challenges.

Responsibilities:

Supporting Blue’s leadership team in driving the execution of day-to-day operations in Guinea. The ideal candidate will take a hands-on approach to successfully manage various workstreams within the project areas. It will mean working closely with communities, government, and scientific partners to solve problems and advance project initiatives. It will also mean being ready to respond with enthusiasm to a fast- paced and wide-ranging set of requests and challenges.

Examples of responsibilities include:

Lead, motivate and manage a high performing diverse team.
Foster a positive and inclusive culture through effective communication and relationship-building.
Create and curate relevant and engaging content for community awareness and engagement workshops.
Coordinate with content creators and subject matter experts to provide valuable information and resources that aligns.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute donor trips to the project areas.
Develop and enforce community guidelines to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
Address and resolve conflicts within the community, ensuring adherence to international standards.
Monitor and report community activities and respond to inquiries, comments, and concerns in a timely and constructive manner.
Implement crisis management plans to address potential challenges within the community.
Respond promptly to any issues that may arise, providing transparency and reassurance to community members.
Act as a liaison between the community and different departments within the organization.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field. A relevant master's degree is a plus.
Proven track record of at least 3-5 years in community management or a related field.
Successful implementation of community engagement strategies.
Experience in developing and implementing Free, Prior, Informed, Consent with communities.
Empathy and a genuine passion for community building.
In-depth knowledge of the Guinea culture, customs, dynamics, and best practices.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing detailed project reports.
Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.
Experience with Environment/Forestry & Carbon Markets.
Fluent in both French and English. Fluency in Sousou would be a plus.
