VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute
Data Science
Join the VLIZ Marine Data Centre and become part of the VLIZ Marine Life+ team and the EurOBIS EMODnet Biology Data Management Team.
Within the MarineLife+ team of the VLIZ Marine Data Centre, several activities on taxonomic, biogeographic and traits databases are grouped, based on the data systems and infrastructures developed, hosted and maintained within the VLIZ Marine Data Centre. These include Aphia, the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS), the Interim Register of Marine and Non-Marine Genera (IRMNG) and the European node of the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (EurOBIS).
The MarineLife+ team focuses on the content of and interactions between these databases, quality control and quality assurance, how scientists can help in making them more complete and how scientists and the public at large can make use of these systems. Several European initiatives (e.g. EMODnet Biology, DTO-BioFlow, MARBEFES, GuardIAS, …) make use of one or more of these databases, services and support that can be provided by the EurOBIS and EMODnet Biology Data Management Team.
VLIZ is hiring, for immediate employment, a data manager to support the MarineLife+ team, with a strong focus on data and project management within EMODnet Biology and closely related projects. The work involves e.g. maintaining and updating data management plans, supporting data partners and providers in adhering to good data management practices, provide online and on-site data training, oversee, guide and improve general and specific external and internal data flows into the VLIZ data systems.
For each function, VLIZ considers enthusiastic involvement, service minded, excellent professionalism and integrity as important characteristics.
