The Flanders Marine Data Centre (VMDC) specializes in the provision of all types of high-quality scientific data, through a multitude of data management activities and maintained information platforms. These activities are conducted as support for marine sciences in Belgium and beyond, either as generic data services or within a large number of regional, national and international research projects. These projects involve a multitude of data types, such as plastic data, biodiversity-data, environmental data, and data on human activities within the marine realm.

VLIZ is hiring, for immediate employment, a marine data steward to help solidify and valorize the data management activities of the VMDC and the wider VLIZ organization, in order to strengthen the capabilities of VLIZ’s data management services towards both the internal departments and external partners alike. You will be responsible for the implementation of best-practice research data management (RDM) at VLIZ, and tracking bench marks to valorize this effort, while also working towards defined data products and dashboards that highlight the VLIZ data collections and services.

In doing so, this position will be part of the ‘Local Services & Projects’ branch of the VMDC, which specializes in providing an array of data services to researchers, institutes and projects, situated within a multitude of different scientific and economic sectors.
