This is a full time calendar year position limited to September 23, 2023 with anticipated renewal.

Job Description Summary

The search will remain open until the position has been filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by November 28, 2022. Second consideration may be given to applications received by December 19 2022. Applications received subsequent to second consideration date (December 19, 2022) may not be given full consideration.


BASIC FUNCTION:

In collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ocean Exploration, URI’s Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute (OECI), the Global Foundation for Ocean Exploration (GFOE) and URI’s Inner Space Center (ISC), work in support of NOAA Ocean Exploration and OECI education, outreach and communications efforts as a multimedia producer and web developer.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead development of web experiences to support live video streaming, including delivery of streams to website and social media platforms and development of a streaming dashboard that integrates data for scientists and the public for a live online experience.

Work closely with NOAA Ocean Exploration, OECI, and ISC to produce video and other content related to ocean exploration programs and projects primarily for public audiences visiting the oceanexplorer.noaa.gov web site.

Ensure optimal delivery of multimedia products (videos, images, animations, etc.), including determination of formats/standards/best practices for web pages and managing delivery platforms such as online galleries.

Assist in the technical production of multimedia products (videos, images, animations, etc.)

Provide support in producing and delivering live interactions to diverse audiences.

Serve as a web developer, building web pages, troubleshooting issues, performing maintenance, providing updates, etc.

Collaborate with the Web Team in the URI Department of Communications and Marketing in meeting web content standards.

Collaborate with the URI Department of Communications and Marketing to meet brand, marketing, social media, and web content standards.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Livestream pages on websites – update web pages at the start and end of each ocean exploration expedition; monitor streams and troubleshoot any streaming issues with the Global Foundation for Ocean Exploration (GFOE) and ISC; work with NOAA Ocean Exploration’s Science and Technology (S&T) and Expeditions and Exploration (E&E) divisions to identify and implement any enhancements to pages, including development of a streaming dashboard; stay current/informed of best practices for livestreaming on the web and work with S&T, E&E, ISC, and GFOE to implement changes as needed.

Manage livestreams on YouTube: set up streams at the start and end of each expedition; stay current/informed of best practices for livestreaming on YouTube and update channel settings as needed; test and implement ways to enhance the public livestreaming experience (e.g., closed captioning, chats, audio).

Act as NOAA Ocean Exploration’s Outreach and Education (O&E) representative for telepresence: attend weekly telepresence meetings with NOAA Ocean Exploration, ISC, and GFOE as O&E rep; relay O&E needs to the group; inform teams of any changes to livestreams.

Manage live interactions through Vimeo (or other platforms): work with ISC to explore the use of other platforms for producing and hosting live interactions.

Manage videos on the web: stay current/informed of best practices for delivery of videos to the web and propose/implement changes to keep sites optimized for video delivery; develop standards for optimized export settings for video products posted on web; troubleshoot video issues; assist with production and output of videos as needed.

Manage website galleries: explore and implement options to better deliver image and video galleries to the web for public audiences.

Web development: serve as webmaster for expeditions; resolve issues submitted by staff/public; work on other web development projects as needed.

Web planning: participate in web planning activities, including those related to the development of next iteration of NOAA Ocean Exploration’s website.

Produce animations/interactive multimedia: explore use of animations and interactive multimedia to visually tell stories; conceptualize and produce interactive graphics and animations as needed to support web content.

Perform other duties as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Proficiency in livestreaming hardware and software applications; Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, and Illustrator); HTML5, CSS, and other markup languages; JavaScript, jQuery, and other programming protocols. Basic knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite of applications and web standards, specifically Section 508 standards, various web development software systems, and programming protocols.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor’s degree.

  2. Minimum of three years of professional experience in livestreaming, video production, web development, broadcasting, or related field.

  3. Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe (i.e., Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator).

  4. Demonstrated familiarity with platforms such as YouTube and Twitch for livestreaming.

  5. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment.

  6. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

  7. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

  8. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

  9. Must be able to safely lift 25 pounds.

  10. Must be capable of standing and sitting for a minimum of three hours.

  11. Must be able to work nights and weekend hours if required.

  12. Must be willing to go to sea on research vessels up to one month at a time.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in film/video/media production, computer science, web development, or IT-related field.

  2. Demonstrated experience as a director or producer of live and produced multimedia content.

  3. Demonstrated experience in producing content-rich web pages.
