Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop and sustain a vigorous extramurally supported, collaborative research program that complements existing expertise in the department.
  2. Conduct outstanding classroom teaching and mentoring of students in the department.
  3. Provide service to the department, school, university, and larger scientific community.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university of recognized standing in Oceanography, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or a related discipline.
  2. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  3. Post-doctoral research experience, or equivalent.
  4. Ability for creative, high-quality research, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
  5. Demonstrated ability for effective written and oral communication.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Success in competition for extramural grants, contracts, or fellowships.
  2. Interest in developing advanced courses in chemical oceanography to complement the department’s curriculum.
  3. Ability to effectively teach and mentor undergraduate or graduate students from varied backgrounds.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively and maintain an environment of mutual respect.
  5. Research interests that complement existing expertise in ocean biogeochemistry within the Department of Oceanography, including seagoing research.
  6. Interest in contributing to cross-campus initiatives focused on AI and data science.
