Job Description

Job Title: Analytical Chemist

Location: Bellingham, WA

Reports To: Chief Product Officer

Status: Exempt, Salary

Salary: $70,000+/year base salary DOE, plus full benefits

JOB SUMMARY:

A successful AC will spend the majority amount of time compiling and analyzing polymer chemistry data. They will work closely with the existing Development Team members to understand samples and projects currently being pursued and will be in charge of providing the required level of analytical data from experiments. A successful candidate will play a role in experimental planning to ensure that the experiments will output analytes for analysis that are desired for R&D purposes. Will ensure that the procedures, experiments, analysis data are well documented. He/she will be responsible to work with the lab team to ensure all AC equipment is well maintained. Will be responsible for writing reports that support R&D studies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the analysis of chitosan or other samples
  • Function as a team member of the Development team staff
  • Maintain Development Department analytical equipment
  • Report results of the analysis to Development Department staff
  • Responsible for documentation of calibration checks and other quality management systems.
  • Responsible for analytical method development and documentation in the form of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions (WIs)
  • Statistical analysis and interpretation of data
  • Prioritizes tasks and effort to align with project objectives.
  • Ensures all work areas are kept clean, organized, operational & safe for all team members, guests of Tidal Vision, and contractors.
  • Ensures that all work environments, practices, procedures, and interactions are safe and productive.
  • Perform routine and non-routine tests and analyses using the appropriate technical equipment and instruments

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Tier 1: BS Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field. 4+ years of work experience operating and maintaining analytical equipment (C-NMR, FTIR, GPC, SEM, Viscometry, Rheology, MS, etc.) and interpreting data.

  • Tier 2: BS Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field. 6+ years of work experience operating and maintaining analytical equipment and interpreting data. Demonstrated capability for method development and establishment of new analytical services (understanding of equipment capabilities to expand lab capabilities)Or graduate with 3+ years working experience operating and maintaining analytical equipment and interpreting data.

  • Tier 3: Graduate degree in Chemistry with a focus on analytical chemistry, the experience of focus on biopolymers is a plus demonstrated capability for method development and establishment of new analytical services (understanding of equipment capabilities to expand lab capabilities).

  • All Tiers: Experienced in the use and maintenance of GPC/SEC, FT-IR, UV-Vis, including sample preparation and spectra interpretation.

  • All Tiers: Experienced in the use of chemical analysis equipment including, but not limited to, solution-state NMR, mass spectrometry, Inductively Coupled Plasma spectrometry.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role is performed on-site in a laboratory and an office setting. This position requires dexterity in handling samples and materials. Must be able to follow safety protocol and have a high standard of maintaining clean and organized workspaces and bench space. Must be adept and willing to work with computer tools, including but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint, video conferencing, and a range of statistical analysis tool skills will be preferred. Must be adept and willing to work as a part of a team and be a proactive communicator and member.
