JOB TITLE: Lab Project & Safety Administrator

REPORTS TO: Facilities & Maintenance Manager

STATUS: non-exempt

LOCATION: Bellingham, WA (on-site)

SALARY RANGE: $35.00-$45.00/hour

Job Summary:

Tidal Vision is hiring a Lab Project & Safety Administrator to own the safety, administration, continuous improvements, and expansion projects within the laboratory.This position will streamline processes, providing our technical staff/scientists the ability to focus on project specifics while having supplemental support in inventory management, researching and implementing safety standards, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, and setting up workstations, etc.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Must be a member of the Safety Committee responsible for representing the Lab and participate by developing and executing safety protocols, training, etc.
  • Developing and implementing a chemical hygiene plan, and training all new hires in chemical hygiene and safety in compliance with OSHA, BSL, etc., while maintaining internal requests from the lab team regarding chemical regulations, lab equipment usage, general housekeeping matters, etc.
  • Ensuring the development team has the correct resources available so they may remain primarily focused on development initiatives.
  • Seeking and driving continuous improvement initiatives for the lab (efficiency, safety, LEAN) and holding the team accountable for the changes made.
  • Must seek context to create, prioritize,, and execute lab projects with management and building maintenance to ensure growth targets for the lab are met.
  • Develop, manage and audit lab inventory systems (including chemicals and SDSs).
  • Performing HSE and QMS audits within lab spaces.
  • Responsible for onboarding all new laboratory staff including: required safety, culture, and general lab systems training.
  • Making an inventory of all lab equipment, scheduling and tracking periodic maintenance and calibration service using a maintenance management system (CMMS).

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience of technical or administrative laboratory experience with extensive knowledge of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) factors.
  • 2+ years experience with chemical regulations and compliance.
  • 2+ years of experience with a variety of analytical laboratory equipment.
  • 2+ years of inventory management experience within a laboratory.
  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, engineering or related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management experience.

Licensing & Special Requirements:

  • Incumbent is subject to a criminal background check.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Most of the work will be performed within a laboratory environment or an office within a laboratory. Some work (such as inventory or scaleup method research) may be performed in a factory or warehouse setting. May require standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, detect odors; and must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Required to wear PPE at appropriate times.
