See open jobs at The Ocean Foundation.See open jobs similar to "Communications Manager" Schmidt Marine.The Ocean Foundation is seeking an energetic and creative, data-driven communications professional to support the lead implementation of our Digital Content Strategy, with the overarching goals of increasing brand awareness about our organization, our conservation programs and lines of business. The Communications Manager is part of a five person External Relations Team, which intentionally pursues an integrated approach to marketing, communications and fundraising to best serve the organization. As a new position, the Communications Manager builds on the previous work led by our Digital Content Manager, with the collection of the organization’s baseline digital analytics and the development of the organization’s first Digital Content Strategy a few years ago. This role will be charged with taking that foundational work to the next level.
Over the next 12 months, in addition to the main responsibilities outlined below, the specific areas of emphasis in this role will include:
(1) a deepening of our baseline digital analytics to move from general dashboards to further interpretation and development of audience insights to refine our strategy,
(2) improving our digital fundraising efforts, through the use of new potential digital platforms and an inaugural SMS marketing program, conducted in close coordination and collaboration with fundraising colleagues who are part of the same External Relations Team.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain the organization’s Content Calendar.
- Lead content generation and editing for The Ocean Foundation’s (oceanfdn.org) website, including blog posts and general webpage copy throughout site.
- Lead content generation and editing for regular email marketing newsletters (MailChimp).
- Maintain and update The Ocean Foundation’s (oceanfdn.org) website in WordPress.
- Maintain and update Marine Debris Foundation website in WordPress. This is a secondary website the role is responsible for, but only very limited and basic updates will be required.
- Lead interpretation of Google Analytics for search and The Ocean Foundation website, development of written quarterly summary reports for leadership and Board of Directors. Prepare and provide verbal read outs of summary data reports to External Relations Team monthly and to The Ocean Foundation President quarterly. Infrequent, but possible, verbal presentations to Board of Directors as needed.
- Provide graphic design and layout of reports, fact sheets and other digital publications. Heavy emphasis on digital materials, less so on hard copy materials or collateral.
- Coordinate with third party vendors for website development (e.g. WordPress Engine support retainer), graphic design (as needed) and print production (provide specs, supervise and approve printing process).
- Coordinate with Social Media Associate for cross promotion of material across TOF’s social media platforms and collaboration on paid ad campaigns.
- Handle administrative marketing operations tasks including maintaining MailChimp account, updates and troubleshooting with third party support teams, placing print orders for business cards and other organizational needs, fielding marketing requests from the organization’s technical Program Team, among other related tasks.
Required qualifications. Candidates must speak to each of the following in the cover letter:
- Demonstrated professional level proficiency in MailChimp.
- Demonstrated professional level proficiency in WordPress and WordPress Engine.
- Demonstrated professional level proficiency in Adobe Photoshop Suite.
- Demonstrated professional level proficiency in Canva.
- Demonstrated professional level proficiency in AP Style.
- Experience in drafting email marketing newsletters with a track record of increasing open rates and other analytics YoY. Experience developing specific CTAs that promote audience engagement and action.
- Experience with surveys, polls and other digital methods to inform our understanding of audience for targeted list segmentation.
- Experience in developing dashboard reports and interpreting data from Google Analytics 4 to make recommendations and changes to tactics for Google Search and our main website. Experience developing insights from baseline analytics data and the ability to use a data-driven approach to inform a shift in strategy and/or tactics.
Preferred qualifications:
The ideal candidate will also be able to provide, as part of their application, written materials illustrating:
- Example of a full communications campaign where you served as the lead from the campaign concept stage, to the draft messaging, to the execution, and finally the quantitative evaluation at the close of the campaign, including how the work aligned with the voice and tone of the organization/client;
- Example of a digital fundraising campaign where you worked as part of an integrated team to assist fundraising colleagues in reaching specific target revenue goals; and/or
- Example of graphic design work, including an explanation of how the work aligned with organizational/client brand guidelines.
Additional desired qualifications:
- Experience with SMS marketing techniques.
- Experience with video production and editing (using cell phone and/or basic in-house camera equipment).
- Experience with staff management. While there are no direct reports currently, this could change as the team grows over time.

Salary Range: $75,000- $85,000
