The Mission to Seafarers seeks a part-time Chaplain to be based at the Ports of Tilbury and London Gateway.

You’ll visit ships berthed primarily within the ports, extending the hand of friendship to seafarers and offering spiritual, emotional support and advice. Working with the Chaplaincy Development Manager, you’ll nurture the current volunteer base, co-ordinate ship visits on all vessels including cruise ships, help facilitate access to ships for volunteers, and provide training for new volunteers. You’ll liaise with other port chaplains and welfare workers to ensure ministry continuity and provide a swift and effective response to any relevant emergency involving seafarers.

The Port of Tilbury is the largest port on the Thames with a throughput of 16 million tonnes per annum. DP London Gateway is a sustainable, strategically located deep seaport and logistics park on the River Thames, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and built to handle the world’s largest vessels.

This post is open to ordained and non-ordained Christians of all denominations with a strong Christian faith and empathy with MtS’s Anglican roots. You should have strong pastoral experience, adaptable interpersonal skills, and a full, clean UK driving licence. Hours are worked flexibly to accommodate shipping schedules. Applicants must already have the right to live and work in the UK.
