The Mission to Seafarers
The Mission to Seafarers seeks a Part-time Chaplain to join our team in Southampton.
Working with the Chaplaincy Team Lead, you’ll visit ships berthed within the Port of Southampton, offering spiritual, emotional and practical support to seafarers of all backgrounds and nationalities while operating in line with MtS’s core purpose to promote the spiritual, moral and physical wellbeing of seafarers.
The Part-time Chaplain will extend the hand of friendship to seafarers, provide pastoral care and advice, coordinate ship visits on all vessels including cruise ships, and work to nurture the current volunteer base and increase community support. You’ll facilitate access to ships for volunteers, provide training for new volunteers, and liaise with other port chaplains and welfare workers to ensure ministry continuity.
This permanent part-time role offers 20 hours per week worked flexibly to accommodate shipping schedules, including weekends and public holidays. The position is based at the Port of Southampton, one of the UK’s busiest and most successful deep-water ports and Europe’s leading turnaround cruise port.
This post is open to ordained and non-ordained candidates. MtS is an Anglican Mission, but this post is open to Christians of all denominations who possess a strong Christian faith and have empathy with MtS’s Anglican roots and with the work and charitable purpose of our work. Candidates should have strong pastoral experience and a practical understanding of the particular challenges seafarers experience.
