The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in Eleuthera, The Bahamas, was founded in 1999 to create and support transformational educational experiences with the mission of leadership effecting change. The diverse CEIS educational initiatives, including the Island School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, the Elementary Learning Center, and Community Outreach, deliver unique education in partnership with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research, sustainable development and innovation at the Cape Eleuthera Institute.

The Island School operates as a close-knit, mission-driven, island-based educational community. Collaboration, flexibility, and shared responsibility are central to our work with students and to life on campus. Staff and educators work closely across programs, age groups, and departments, supporting students through interdisciplinary learning, shared supervision, and community events.
Fellows are supported by experienced staff and are encouraged to grow into this collaborative culture with guidance, mentorship, and clear communication. This community-based approach is a defining feature of employment at The Island School and an essential part of our educational mission.
Program Purpose
The Fellowship Program is an immersive, mentored opportunity for emerging professionals to contribute to a progressive educational model while building the skills, experience, and relationships that will shape the next stage of their careers. Fellows live and work on campus, participate in the daily life of the community, and gradually take on increasing responsibility throughout their time in the role.
The Wellness & Expeditions Fellow supports the daily operations of the Wellness Center, serves in emergency response capacities, participates in our on-call system, maintains and teaches proper use of our expedition gear, and champions efforts to educate and support needs across the organization utilizing your unique skill set. This position is ideal for an individual seeking hands-on experience and learning in a clinical, community-based, and remote environment. Fellows work alongside our lead staff, gradually building responsibility throughout their time in the role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone exploring careers and developing skills in emergency medicine, wilderness medicine, nursing, or experiential education.

This fellowship begins in June/July and runs for a full year.

Mentorship and Support
The Fellowship is supported within a strong learning network:
Wellness & Risk Management Director: Serves as the Fellow’s senior guide, providing oversight, skill development support, and regular one-to-one check-ins.
Wellness Center Manager/Registered Nurse: Provides clinical mentorship and guidance on patient care within the Fellow’s scope of certification.
Wellness Center Coordinator: Provides additional mentorship both in the clinic and as a professional in the organization.
Program hours vary depending on program needs. Evening and weekend participation will be required, and special events may require extended on-site hours. The successful candidate should expect to work a variable and mission-driven schedule.
