About Tetiaroa SocietyTetiaroa Society is a conservation nonprofit stewarding a 12-motu atoll in French Polynesia, operating in close partnership with The Brando resort. Our work spans active field science, indigenous cultural leadership, and environmental education, sharing the story of the atoll with donors, researchers, and travelers around the world. Role overviewThe Content & Communications Intern supports the Communications Manager and Operations Director in producing newsletters, coordinating internal communications, managing our shared inbox, and creating content for events and campaigns, helping keep information flowing clearly across the organization and to our wider community.This is a working role on a small team. You will contribute to communications that reach real audiences, with supervision, feedback, and mentorship throughout. What you will learn- How a conservation nonprofit structures messaging for distinct audiences, including donors, scientific partners, government stakeholders, and the general public.- End-to-end newsletter production, from source gathering and editorial judgment through layout and distribution.- Professional stakeholder correspondence: triaging incoming communications, judging what requires escalation, and drafting responses that represent an organization well.- Brand and voice discipline across formats and audiences.- How communications connects to fundraising, partnership development, and program delivery inside a small nonprofit. Responsibilities- Produce our internal and external newsletters, from layout to content assembly- Support internal communications: updates, materials, and information shared across the team- Manage and respond to the shared communications inbox, escalating donor, media, and partner inquiries to staff- Update and maintain content on our website- Create content for events and campaigns, including graphic design support- Organize and format materials so information stays consistent and easy to find across the team- Monitor news and articles on conservation and Polynesian culture, and track upcoming local events we could participate in- Support the Communications Manager and Operations Director on communications and coordination needs- Coordinate with our Social Media Intern on shared projects Supervision and support- Weekly one-to-one check-in with the Communications Manager, 30 minutes- Written feedback on major pieces, with the editorial reasoning explained- Two conversations across the placement with staff in conservation science, education and culture, or field station operations, so you understand the work you are communicating- Midterm and final written evaluation, suitable for submission to your institution Who this is forStudents and early-career individuals who are organized, detail-oriented, and enjoy designing and producing content, with an interest in nonprofit operations, internal coordination, and communications. Skills & qualities- Comfortable using Canva, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator for content creation and layout- Familiarity with Mailchimp, or willingness to learn, for newsletter production- Strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple ongoing pieces of content and correspondence- Clear written communication, able to adapt tone for internal versus external audiences- Reliable and proactive in following up on pending items- Interest in nonprofit operations, conservation, or Polynesian culture is a plus- Familiarity with our US-based audience (donors, partners, travelers) is a plus If you are seeking academic creditMany institutions grant credit for placements like this.
