Opportunity Statement:
Position Overview:
Key Responsibilities:
- Fundraising Strategy and Execution:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to meet SFP’s annual and long-term financial goals.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts from foundations, development agencies (USAID, UNDP, FAO, GEF, etc.), and individual donors, particularly HNWIs.
- Expand SFP’s donor base by developing new revenue streams.
Foundation and Agency Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key foundations and development agencies.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of high-quality grant proposals, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and organizational needs.
- Monitor and report on grant compliance and outcomes, working closely with program staff to ensure successful donor stewardship.
Individual Giving:
- Lead the creation and implementation of a new individual giving program, specifically focusing on engaging High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs). This effort is a new initiative at SFP, and the Development Director will be responsible for developing this program from the ground up.
- Design and execute a targeted strategy for HNWIs, including personalized communication, tailored proposals, and strategic donor events.
- Develop and manage marketing and communication materials for individual donors.
- Establish and implement donor recognition and stewardship activities to cultivate and sustain long-term relationships with individual donors.
Collaboration and Leadership:
- Work closely with the Executive Team and Board of Directors to align fundraising activities with organizational priorities and opportunities.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Development team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Program and Finance teams to develop and manage fundraising budgets, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Data and Reporting:
- Utilize donor management systems to track and analyze donor activity, providing regular reports on progress toward fundraising goals.
- Continuously evaluate and refine fundraising strategies based on data-driven insights and donor feedback.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record of developing new revenue streams and securing major gifts from foundations, development agencies, and HNWIs.
- Preferably, 7+ years of experience in non-profit development, with a focus on international development or environmental conservation desired.
- Strong understanding of the philanthropic landscape, preferably in relation to sustainable development and fisheries.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to produce high-quality grant proposals and donor communications.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in donor relations, developing successful fundraising strategies, and managing a team of development staff
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with donor management software and other fundraising tools, e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, etc.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Compensation: This is an exempt position with a salary range of $140,000 - $150,000 annually.
