The Role

We’re looking for a Head of Marketing to lead brand strategy, communications, and go-to-market execution. This role is critical to shaping how the world sees Sofar - a company at the intersection of geospatial data, ocean science, and real-time intelligence.

You’ve likely spent 8+ years leading marketing in both startups and scaled tech orgs. You’re equal parts strategist and operator. You build brands from scratch, shape narratives that stick, and know how to drive results without a bloated team. You know what credibility looks like in climate tech, enterprise SaaS, or data-heavy sectors - and you bring it.

You’ll partner directly with the CEO, Product, Engineering, and Science to position Sofar in a way that drives demand, sparks curiosity, and earns trust.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Position the company as the category defining leader in ocean intelligence
  • Take ownership: Align go-to-market with Sales and Product to fuel demand for our flagship product, Wayfinder
  • Build and launch exec comms that amplify Sofar’s leadership voice externally
  • Set KPIs and marketing performance metrics to track what’s working and what’s not
  • Model and shape a high-performing, values-driven marketing culture - collaborative, bold, and mission-aligned

About You

  • 8+ years in marketing leadership roles with full-stack ownership of brand, comms, and GTM
  • Track record in startup and enterprise environments (bonus points for experience in climate, geospatial, or enterprise data/SaaS)
  • Ability to build category-defining messaging in emerging markets
  • Full-stack marketing experience
  • Deep experience across PR, executive comms, analyst relations, and integrated campaigns
  • Sharp POV on marketing’s role in accelerating company growth and influence
  • You care. About your impact, about your team members and about the ocean.

Bonus Points

  • Understanding of the shipping industry or experience in marine sensing.
  • You have a connection to or passion for the ocean.

Estimated Salary Range

  • $190,000 - $240,000
  • The range listed is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may be modified in the future. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, experience, and equity package.

Sofar's Commitment to Climate Justice

We at Sofar Ocean acknowledge that careers in the marine sciences “... have traditionally been, and remain, non-diverse work environments”, thereby limiting the entry and prosperity of underrepresented groups in the space. (Johri et al., 2021) Many of these same groups are disproportionately affected by climate change, and are often excluded from decision making that directly address their interests and needs.

We are committed to addressing these climate injustices and highly encourage people who identify as women, LGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to apply

Employee Conduct

It is the responsibility of every employee to contribute to a positive work environment through cooperative and professional interactions with co-workers, customers, and vendors.

Equal Employment Opportunity

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other factors prohibited by law.
