Scope of engagement The fellow will begin their work by developing a strategic plan that outlines with greater detail how deliverables listed below are developed to ensure alignment and high-quality outcomes that build on insights from across WEF and STRI.

Deliverables for this work include: • Working directly with STRI science and regional experts, and in close collaboration with the WEF’s 1000 ocean startups’ JEDI working group, one deliverable will be a stakeholder map, needs analysis, and assessment of processes and potential outcomes for just transitions that aims to identify actors, sectors, and perspectives; incorporates the views of leaders from science, indigenous peoples, local communities, industry leaders, innovators and youth; outlines and evaluates existing regulatory frameworks for impact innovation; identifies scientific challenges and opportunities for ocean innovators across the tropics; and critically assesses the impacts on and opportunities for coastal communities. • As part of the 1000 Ocean Startups JEDI working group, another deliverable will include an examination of the gender and geographic diversity of the ocean technology ecosystem and solutions to increase representation and resources availability. • At least one workshop or event to convene relevant actors from industry, government, academia, and civil society to discuss approaches to enable a just and equitable ocean economy through innovation. This might include participation in a Community of Practice (COP) that brings together a range of actors engaged in innovation, to provide guidance for emerging ocean innovators, deepen collective understanding of local innovation ecosystems and accelerate positive change and investments to support underrepresented groups. • At least one briefing or report that summarizes findings and is useful to: o Inform the research and convening goals of the Resilience Initiative at STRI o WEF’s workstream on impact innovation for a sustainable ocean economy, including suggestions for increasing the representation of female and underrepresented groups founders and supporting new ocean innovation ecosystems across the global tropics. o Expand the body of literature regarding a socially just and equitable ocean economy.
