The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) invites applications for the position of SAFET Executive Director. The Seafood and Fisheries Emerging Technologies (SAFET) Conference was launched by WWF in 2014 with a vision to explore and discover the potential of emerging, and potentially disruptive, technologies to improve the conservation and management of our world's fisheries and the traceability of the seafood supply chain. WWF partnered with Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) in 2020 to further these goals and objectives. From drones to cameras and satellites to artificial intelligence, the SAFET platform is designed to explore and create a dialogue around cutting-edge technologies such as these (and many more) while better connecting technology developers with those individuals and organizations that stand to benefit most from them. The SAFET Executive Director will be a highly motivated self-starter who will help to build out and execute a strong vision for how SAFET can meet its full potential as a convening and connecting force in the seafood and fisheries technology space. The SAFET Executive Director will be responsible for all aspects of the SAFET platform, including but not limited to organizing online, hybrid and in-person events, coordination of periodic meetings with SAFET partners, fundraising and financial planning, website development and outreach activities.

The SAFET Executive Director's duties include: 1. Facilitating the operation of the SAFET platform and coordination among SAFET Committee Members. 2. Managing the maintenance and development of the SAFET website and associated online planning and scheduling tools. 3. Ensuring regular marketing and outreach through existing social media platforms, including coordinating regularly scheduled blog posts and regular newsletters. 4. Organisation and management of meetings under the SAFET platform, including event arrangements, preparation of draft and provisional agendas in conjunction with SAFET Committee Chairs and Members, preparation and presentation of materials for meetings, rapporteuring and drafting reports of meetings, and maintaining the records of meetings. 5. Assisting SAFET Committee Chairs in the preparation of draft financial budgets for online and in-person events. 6. Receiving and transmitting SAFET official communications, including official invitations for speakers, presenters, or vendors. 7. Representing SAFET at meetings, forums and other venues as appropriate. 8. Identifying and conducting regular, targeted outreach to cutting edge technology providers and progressive leaders in the seafood industry to invite them to engage in the SAFET platform. 9. Leading fundraising efforts to support the ongoing functions of the SAFET Conference. 10. Guiding the development and transition of SAFET to a self-sustaining organization, including conducting the organizational administration of the new entity and interfacing with board members. 11. Performing such other functions as are necessary to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the SAFET platform, including other functions assigned by the SAFET Committee Chairs.

WWF, with input from EDF, will be guided by the following Selection Criteria for appointing the SAFET Executive Director: 1. High level skills, organizational experience and proven competence in such areas as: ● Provision of strategic and operational advice for website management and conference execution, ● Oversight and management of websites, databases, and documents for an organization, ● Preparation of financial budgets and the management of expenditure, and ● Organisation of international meetings and provision of support for committees, including preparation of reports. 2. Experience or detailed knowledge of the organization and execution of large meetings or conferences. 3. Demonstrated ability to engage in ongoing fundraising activities to support the SAFET platform. 4. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively in a multicultural environment with stakeholders across a wide range of countries and backgrounds. 5. Experience or knowledge of fisheries science, fisheries management, seafood marketing, marine conservation, oceanography, or a related discipline is preferred. 6. Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and work independently. 9. Ability to undertake international travel for a period of approximately 1-2 weeks at least once per year. 10. The appointment will be under a year-by-year consultancy contract for a term of two years with the possibility of renewal, subject to funding and the approval of the SAFET Committee.
