Department: Communications

Hours of work: 16 hours per week

Rate of pay: £12.60 per hour

Work location: SAMS site, Dunbeg, near Oban

Duration: 26 weeks

Purpose

This is a great introduction to building a career in customer care, e-communications, marketing, outreach and/or administration.

Skills

You will join a supportive and busy Communications & Engagement Team and have the opportunity to develop skills in customer care, communications (which can include graphic design, filmmaking or photography), marketing, event planning/delivery, outreach and / or administrative support. Depending on your interest and aptitude, your tasks might include:

  • Learning how to create content for social media
  • Assisting with organising, delivering and evaluating events
  • Delivering customer care in our Ocean Explorer Visitor Centre and shop
  • Supporting our outreach team organising/delivering workshops for schools
  • Helping to provide admin support for SAMS membership
  • Learning how to create purchase orders and organise travel arrangements to support marketing, engagement and student recruitment.

The breadth of deliverables and professional skills available in the Communications team is substantial, and the team will be able to create a plan that supports the skills and career interests of the successful candidate.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys teamwork with good natural communication skills and enjoys meeting and working with others.
  • You need to be computer literate with some skills in Microsoft Office
  • Experience of different social media platforms, in addition to organisational and administrative skills would be beneficial. You will learn how to adapt social media content for business activities.
  • Customer care or retail experience would be helpful for some tasks
  • The placement may suit a school/college leaver or graduate or someone looking to get back into work.
