We’re looking for a Commercial Director who will accelerate sustainable growth through our company’s commercial activity. Ideally, you buy into our vision for inventing technologies to create a sustainable ocean and want to work at an awarding winning conservation technology company that’s been listed in the Top 5 Organisations to Escape To in 2022. What is the job?

We’ve brought our first product, Pisces, to market in 2021 and are now looking to launch our next products. We’re a strong product (and user) focused company, but are looking to focus more on our commercial activities to show our products to the world (and make a larger impact). We’re looking for someone who can identify the opportunities to do so and put in strategies to successfully take our products to market. You’ll be working closely with our Sales and Marketing teams to implement these, as well as our Finance Manager and CEO to determine our growth opportunities, and you’ll be engaging with potential partners and customers to build long term relationships.

Responsibilities:

Commercial

  • Collect information on market needs and bringing that back to shape product development
  • Set sales strategy and execute
  • Bring in revenue opportunities
  • Optimise sales conversions and processes
  • Implement new marketing and customer acquisition strategies
  • Establish and manage long-term relationship with stakeholders
  • Ensure successful distribution to target markets
  • Synthesis and presentation of financial results to investor board
  • Work with the CEO and investors to deliver the above

Business Strategy

  • Develop and implement future business strategies, plans and procedures
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth
  • Oversee marketing initiatives and implement better business practices.
  • Drive the company’s operating capabilities to surpass customer satisfaction and retention, and company goals.
  • Evaluate performance by analysing and interpreting data and metrics

Organisational

  • Update policies that promote company culture and vision
  • Oversee the work of Marketing & Sales
  • Delegate responsibilities to ensure staff members grow as capable participants.
  • Employ various initiatives to coach employees to optimise their capabilities.
  • Assess and implement improved processes and new internal technologies, and collaborate with management regarding the implementation of these improvements.

Financial

  • Work together with key participants to compile the budget.
  • Control company costs, and introducing tactical initiatives to address the best use of funds.

Fundraising

  • Assist CEO in fundraising ventures
  • Participate in expansion activities (investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances etc.)

Skills:

NB. Please consider applying, even if you don’t meet all of the experiences described below.

  • You have taken product to market before (ideally in the ocean sector or in small tech / hardware)
  • In-depth understanding of market research methods and analysis
  • Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes
  • Proven experience in sales and/or marketing and managing relationships with key clients
  • Sold tech to a new market, ideally B2B
  • Experience selling to other geographies
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills
  • BSc/BA in business administration, finance or relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus

About Us

SafetyNet Technologies takes a user-centred design approach to building precision fishing technology to support a more optimised and sustainable fishing industry. Based in London Bridge, we are a team of 20 designers, engineers, scientists and business specialists who have built strong links with the international commercial fishing industry, scientific community and regulatory bodies. We’re working hard to find solutions to some of the major challenges that the fishing industry faces including bycatch and overfishing.

Location

Our physical studio is in London Bridge, London, UK, but there’s flexibility to work remotely most of the time. You might also bump into our tenants who work on electric vehicles, kickstarter campaigns and hexapod robots.
