About the role
Reporting to the Director of Global Brand Strategy, the Publicist is responsible for supporting the development and execution of impactful and integrated PR initiatives in key markets to increase brand awareness, enhance brand positioning, and maintain positive perception. The Publicist works jointly with the Founder and the Brand team to identify and propose opportunities to help achieve our company strategy and live our purpose through creative and high quality PR programs.

To be successful in this role, you will need a strong passion and strength in consumer markets understanding and insights to develop creative and innovative solutions to ensure Plastic Bank’s message remains widespread, captivating and well-understood.

Your assignments will offer you the chance to create an immediate impact on the business while you continue to build your strategic, analytical, creative, and leadership skills. Your success will be based on operational and project work you’re doing, which would be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities

Brand PR - 85%

  • Support with the development and execution of innovative and impactful PR plans to secure favorable press coverage; including placements & feature stories as part of baseline PR initiatives and assigned projects.
  • Work directly with the Social Media team to deliver fully integrated Brand Communications plans that challenge convention.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing and external stakeholders to develop an actionable and relevant pitch calendar for print, broadcast and digital media to achieve results based on company KPIs and proactively pursuing alternative solutions when difficulties arise.
  • Facilitate efficient, positive, and productive relationships with PR agencies in respective key markets to achieve regional PR targets by leveraging local insights and ensuring smooth execution.
  • Representation of Plastic Bank’s PR arm in partner meetings and presentations, with a proactive liaison with their PR agencies to leverage joint milestones and their media coverage.
  • Participate in QA processes for external communications including but not limited to newsletters and editorial articles, proactively flagging sensitive issues and/or communications considerations to respective teams.
  • Draft newsworthy PR materials including press releases, maintain updated media lists, PR alerts and pitches with minimal revisions from manager.
  • Research, identify, and recommend key business and trade PR opportunities aligned to company priorities to position Plastic Bank as a driving force in sustainability.
  • Liaise with external partners and internal teams to coordinate media events and launches.

Tracking & Reporting - 15%

  • Establish reporting mechanisms to keep key stakeholders informed on all PR activities and media coverage.
  • Conduct PR and market analysis based on PR framework performance and industry trends to identify PR opportunities where Plastic Bank is under-indexed, and collaborate with respective partners to optimize.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate Degree required; MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of PR experience – either agency or in-house
  • Proven experience securing media coverage across beauty and lifestyle publications in both Canada and the US
  • Strong, relevant and active contacts in reputed media sources in the US and Canada
  • Outstanding communication skills; written, spoken, presentation etc.
  • Ability to problem solve, think critically and in an integrated manner, while presenting outside- the-box ideas
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to focus, prioritize and multitask in a fast paced, high-energy environment
  • A team player with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work with initiative, taking direction where needed
  • Agility and grit that delivers results

NICE TO HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in related field (communications, marketing, journalism or public relations)
  • Experience working in Consumer Goods or FMCG
  • Strong, active and relevant contacts in reputed media sources in the UK, Germany and France
  • Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada or Latin America
