The center's mission is to guide efforts suppporting coral reef stewardship through research and its applications for the people of Palau, Micronesia, and the world. Towards that end, the Palau International Coral Reef Center, a non-profit organization, conducts research that enhances knowledge and conservation of coral reef systems and their associated marine environments. The center educates the public about the ecological, economic and cultural importance of coral reefs; provides facilities for research, professional training, workshops, and conferences on marine research and management; and house a quality visitor attraction, the Palau Aquarium, where both residents and visitors to Palau can expand their knowledge of the country's diverse and unique ecosystems. In addition, the center is collaborating and exchanging information with governments, institutions, organizations, research groups and traditional leaders. By conducting these activities, the Palau International Coral Reef Center is making a major contribution to the efforts of Palau, Micronesia and beyond to protect and conserve marine biodiversity and resources.
