The College of Liberal Arts, School of Writing, Literature, and Film invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, fixed term Assistant Professor of Teaching position.

Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

This Assistant Professor of Teaching position is responsible for delivering high-quality and innovative instruction in the areas of Creative Writing, while maintaining and growing a substantial research program and providing service to the School, College, and University. Teaching responsibilities principally involve teaching courses fiction, journalistic/creative non-fiction, and relevant courses in English Literature where appropriate, as well as mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the publishing process.

Teaching duties include timely email correspondence with students, and such correspondence is expected even after the conclusion of the term if any outstanding issues (grade disputes, other administrative matters) from the course remain unresolved. Incumbent will be expected to advise MFA theses and/or undergraduate theses where appropriate. Service includes committee-work for the School, College, and University.

Key Responsibilities
70% Instruction: Teach a total of seven courses annually in areas of specialization and in alignment with School needs; advise students to achieve academic success; contribute to curriculum development and programmatic growth where appropriate.

20% Research: Maintain a strong record of scholarly/creative work; deliver presentations at regional/national/international conferences; publish peer-reviewed research/creative work in reputable venues.

10% Service: Provide service to the School, College, University, and profession; engage in outreach efforts to local, regional, and international communities.

What You Will Need
  • MFA in Creative Writing
  • Evident commitment to educational equity, effectiveness, and inclusivity
  • Record of publication across multiple genres of creative writing
  • Evidence of significant pedagogical innovation and engagement
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Significant experience teaching online courses and crafting curricula for online venues
  • Experience teaching the publication process to developing storytellers
