Position Summary
This position is for the OSU-Cascades Library in Bend, Oregon.
Library Student Assistants provide customer service and campus support at the library’s information desk.

Position Duties
· Provide friendly and courteous service for patrons at the library’s information desk.
· Help patrons locate library material, both in the physical collection and through the library’s online catalog.
· Use library software systems to check out and return library materials.
· Professionally answer questions about library and Cascades campus services in person, over the phone, or via email.
· Provide basic technology assistance (computers and printing, entry-level equipment support, etc.)
· Use Library of Congress classification system to retrieve and shelve items.
· Perform regular library upkeep through cleaning and organizing.
· Assist with special projects as assigned by Library Director.
· Maintain library values including confidentiality, patron privacy, and freedom of information.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
· Ability and enthusiasm to provide excellent customer service.
· Strong spoken and written communication skills.
· Ability to learn and utilize library tools such as the online catalog, the library website, and Library of Congress classification system.
· Proficiency with basic office software and OSU applications.
· Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
· Punctual and dependable.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
· Curiosity about the field of librarianship and its associated practices.
· Previous customer service experience.
· Previous library work or volunteer experience.
