Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) student technical assistant for the Crop and Soil Science Extension at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Field Crops Weed Science program at Oregon State University is seeking an undergraduate student to assist with field, greenhouse, and laboratory research. This position provides hands-on experience in agricultural research and is ideal for students interested in crop science, agronomy, weed management, or related fields.

Position Duties
  • Assist with field experiments, including plot establishment, maintenance, data collection, and harvesting.
  • Help prepare and maintain greenhouse experiments (filling pots, transplanting seedlings, data collection, and harvesting).
  • Perform laboratory tasks such as seed cleaning, germination tests, sample preparation, and data entry.
  • Maintain research equipment and workspaces in clean and safe conditions.
  • Follow research protocols and safety guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate student at Oregon State University (any major; preference for agricultural sciences or related fields).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to perform outdoor fieldwork, including lifting up to 40 lbs and working in varying weather conditions.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Interest or background in crop science, agronomy, weed science, biology, or related areas.
  • Previous experience with fieldwork, greenhouse work, or lab research.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Flexible schedule during the academic year (10-20 hours/week) with the possibility of increased hours during summer.
  • Compensation: $15.05/hour.
