Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Statewide Master Gardener assistant for the Extension Master Gardener™ Program at Oregon State University (OSU).

The OSU Extension Master Gardener™ Program is seeking a motivated and creative Student Communications Assistant to support statewide communications and marketing efforts. The position offers hands-on experience in strategic communications, digital content creation, and project coordination. The assistant will work closely with program leadership to help tell the story of OSU Extension’s impact in gardening, climate resilience, and community engagement.

Position Duties
Digital Communications:
Assist with creating, editing, and posting content for Master Gardener social media channels, newsletters, and email campaigns.
Website & Intranet Updates:
Help maintain and update MG program webpages, intranet resources, and digital materials.
Outreach & Marketing Materials:
Support the design and production of outreach materials for county coordinators and statewide projects (e.g., brochures, flyers, graphics, presentations).
Project Support:
Assist with major statewide initiatives such as the annual impact report, Seed to Supper, and the Garden Future campaign.
Research & Writing:
Draft short articles, blurbs, or captions that highlight program activities, volunteers, and community impact.
Administrative Support:
Track content, organize files, and assist with communications workflows as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Experience with (or interest in learning) digital communications tools, such as social media platforms, WordPress/Drupal, Canva, Salesforce/Marketing Cloud, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with content creation for social media (graphics, captions, short videos).
  • Coursework or prior experience in communications, marketing, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Interest in gardening, sustainability, community service, or climate communication.
  • Current OSU student in good academic standing.
