Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (maximum of 24 hours per week) Contributing Photographer position for the communications and marketing team in the Oregon State University Division of Extension and Engagement.

The primary focus of this position is to work with the unit’s communication and marketing professionals to develop photographic content to support Extension and engagement educational, public information and/or marketing efforts. This position will provide experience in the context of professional communications for an Extension Service at a land grant university. Photo assignments will occur at OSU and community locations throughout Oregon.

Pay rate:
$21 hourly (a flat rate that includes both taking and editing photos and corresponding with colleagues to plan for assignments)

Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
This position does not have a regular, set schedule and hours are variable depending on assignments.

Position Duties
90 % Photography

  • Takes photos at the direction of Extension Communications staff
  • Suggests ideas for photos
  • Confirms photo assignments with the contact and/or photo subject
  • Curates photos from each assignment and performs basic photo editing, which includes color correcting and culling the lower quality images
  • Uploads photos and metadata to photo database, or to OSU’s approved file-sharing software platforms
  • Collects model releases from subjects, as needed
  • Adheres to OSU brand guidelines
5 % Communication and Leadership

  • Responds promptly to emails, messages, Teams chats and phone calls
  • Notifies Extension Communications staff member immediately of needed changes to a photo shoot, or if it is canceled by the contact
  • Follows all OSU and EC policies and procedures
  • Acts professionally at all times
  • Ensures that when possible, photos are centered on equitable representation and inclusion, with attention to impact on historically underrepresented and marginalized communities and constituencies
5 % Other duties
Based on skill and interest, may occasionally contribute visual communication expertise to other projects and assignments, including basic videography.


Student will meet with supervisor as needed in person (OSU campus, Corvallis, OR) or virtually (Teams/Zoom) as needed.
Student must have access to professional photography equipment. We can lend some equipment based on availability.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Experience taking photos with professional quality camera equipment, including DSLR cameras and mirrorless camera bodies
  • Ability to meet deadlines Ability to edit photos Organized and reliable
  • Experienced with giving and receiving feedback

This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OSU Standard 125-155-0200) as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq.
