Job Summary | This is an Internal Employment Opportunity The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Teaching and Senior Associate Director position. The incumbent will hold two appointments, a 0.50 FTE, fixed term, 9-month Assistant or Associate Professor of Teaching position, with reappointment at the discretion of the School Head, and a 0.50 FTE Senior Associate Director, a 12-month, professional faculty position. The purpose of the Professor of Teaching appointment is to meet teaching, advising, and research needs within the School of Public Policy. This primary role is teaching graduate and undergraduate students within the field of Public Policy in order to foster critical policy analysis skills, and advance student’s knowledge and skills in classes on social research, qualitative research methods, public policy problems and theory, and public administration. The incumbent is expected to provide an intellectual foundation for students pursuing graduate and undergraduate degrees in Public Policy. The courses serve students in degree programs and provide enrichment experiences for both majors and non-majors. The incumbent is also expected to engage in scholarly research in collaboration with students and faculty at OSU including, but not limited to, publishing work such as research articles, policy reports, books, and/or book chapters, as well as assisting graduate students in the production of original research through advising and collaboration and pursuing grant opportunities in support of research. Provides leadership to graduate students; participates in school and university service activities. The Senior Associate Director plays a critical leadership role in advancing the mission of the OSU Policy Analysis Lab (OPAL). This position is responsible for overseeing strategic initiatives, managing key research and policy projects, and supporting the operational and administrative functions of the center. The Senior Associate Director serves as a thought partner to the Academic Director of OPAL and the Director of the School of Public Policy, provides leadership to graduate students working on OPAL projects, manages OPAL project research teams, co-creates and supervises all research reports produced through OPAL, works to secure external funding for OPAL projects, and represents OPAL with external stakeholders including policymakers, funders, academic partners, and the media. |

What You Will Need | For all ranks: · PhD degree in public policy, economics, political science, or a related field · Relevant teaching experience and evidence of or commitment to excellence in inclusive teaching and student success. Assistant Professor of Teaching: · Demonstrated experience in teaching courses in Public Policy graduate or undergraduate degree programs, including research methods, qualitative research, public policy theory, and/or social policy. · Demonstrated capacity to develop curriculum/coursework in the field of public policy as evidenced by previous experience or training in this area · Demonstrated experience in producing scholarly research as evidenced by peer reviewed publications, policy reports, books, and/or external grant receipt. · Demonstrated capacity to advise students within the field of Public Policy at the graduate level, which may be indicated by mentoring programs or other training Associate Professor of Teaching: · Demonstrated excellence in teaching several core courses in Public Policy graduate degree programs, including research methods, qualitative research, public policy theory, and social policy. · Demonstrated experience in developing curriculum and coursework for undergraduate and graduate courses in the field of Public Policy · Demonstrated excellence in producing scholarly research as evidenced by quality and quantity of peer reviewed publications, policy reports, books, and/or external grant receipt. · Demonstrated experience in advising graduate students and disseminating knowledge within the field of Public Policy. This may be achieved through teaching, mentoring and advising experience or other transferrable skill experiences such as working within policy-based leadership roles. OPAL Sr. Associate Director: · 8–10 years of experience in policy research, program management, or leadership roles. · Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, secure funding, and lead cross-functional teams. · Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences. · Commitment to the OPAL mission and to advancing evidence-based policy analysis and reporting |
What We Would Like You to Have | · Demonstrated excellence in teaching several core courses in Public Policy undergraduate degree programs, including public policy problems, and/or public administration. · Experience with hands-on policy research production and supervision that may be used as a basis for providing career-based skills education to graduate and undergraduate students in Public Policy. |
