Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill four (4) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Research Ambassador positions at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Office of Undergraduate Research at Oregon State University is seeking enthusiastic undergraduate students to serve as Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URAs). This team plays a vital role in promoting the value, accessibility, and impact of undergraduate research experiences across all disciplines at OSU.URAs will present information about undergraduate research opportunities to classes, clubs, and organizations on and off campus and will provide personalized, one-on-one support to students who seek help finding and applying for research experience. Research Ambassadors help communicate undergraduate research experiences and the skills required to obtain those experiences through social media and online content, including creating graphics, short videos, and other engaging materials. URAs research opportunities on- and off-campus, create social media content, graphics, and informational videos, edit the Research Experiences page on career.arizona.edu and the undergraduate research website at undergradresearch.oregonstate.edu. URAs may interview, photograph, and promote student and faculty research activities, and perform other duties of outreach and program promotion as assigned.
We seek applications from undergraduate students with research experience in ANY field – literature, art, social sciences, mathematics, life sciences, astronomy, etc. We strive for a diverse team, and particularly look for second- and third-year students interested in the opportunity to grow into a lead URA role in future semesters. Our needs to form a team with diverse skill sets allow URA team members to focus on the aspects of this work that interests them most.
For our 2025-2026 team, we have a particular need for team members who can fill the following team positions (one person per skill need, plus we are hiring additional team members as well!):
  • Experienced in research and majoring in a non-STEM field
  • Strong writing and editing skills and an interest in research communication and / or journalism.

All URAs should be prepared to meet 1:1 with students seeking help, respond to email queries, attend tabling events, and present prepared information in front of a group.

Position Duties
Peer Mentorship and Advising:
  • Conduct one-on-one and group advising sessions to guide students on finding research opportunities, connecting with faculty mentors, applying for programs, and navigating the research process.
  • Mentor students, particularly those new to research, providing support and insights based on personal experiences.
Outreach and Promotion:
  • Deliver presentations and workshops to classes, student organizations, and other groups about the benefits and pathways to undergraduate research.
  • Represent the Office of Undergraduate Research at various events, such as recruitment fairs, information sessions, and symposia, to generate enthusiasm and answer questions.
  • Create and disseminate promotional materials (e.g., social media content, flyers, digital signage) to raise awareness of research opportunities.
Program Development and Support:
  • Collaborate with the Office of Undergraduate Research to plan and implement workshops, events, and activities focused on undergraduate research.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of undergraduate research programs, providing feedback and suggesting new initiatives.
Professional Development:
  • Participate in training sessions, meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to undergraduate research and outreach.
  • Develop and strengthen communication, leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and time management skills through active participation in the program.
  • Other Duties: Additional tasks as assigned by the research advisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in good academic standing.
  • Demonstrated experience in undergraduate research, creative activity, or scholarly work (e.g., two quarters or one full summer of research).
  • Strong interest in promoting undergraduate research and mentoring fellow students.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration and teamwork, as most of the work will be done as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and reliability.
  • Commitment to the full academic year or a specified term of service.
  • Willingness to commit several hours per week (typically 5-10 hours, but may vary due to project needs).

  • Commitment to fostering excellence in research environments.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Attend mandatory training in the fall (Date TBD)
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with supervisor (based on Ambassador schedules)
  • Actively participate in outreach events throughout the academic year (including University presentations, tabling events, campus partner and student organization presentations, and more!)
  • Maintain knowledge about the services offered through the Office of Undergraduate Research
  • Serve as a role model and peer leader in the undergraduate research community
