Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill five (5) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Early Care and Education Aide for the Family Resource Center at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Student Early Care and Education Aide (Aide) supports the lead and assistant teachers at any of the Family Resource Center’s Early Care and Education (ECE) centers on the Oregon State University Corvallis campus. The Aides will be an on call position to fill in during staff absences and vacations. Campus ECE centers are committed to continually discovering, creating, and sustaining a teaching and learning environment that supports inquiry, diversity, and equity. Aides are responsible (as outlined below) for the areas to which they are assigned and the young children in their care. This position supports the full-time teacher(s), the Center Directors, helps with other Center wide duties. Aides report to the lead and assistant teachers of their respective classrooms. This position requires knowledge of child development, excellent communication skills and tremendous patience to provide a safe, emotionally secure, and nurturing environment for the healthy development of young children. The primary duties will be to assist with day-to-day classroom operations.

Position Duties
95% Classroom Assistance:
  • Assist in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate, play-based, culturally responsive, and equity-oriented educational program with an emergent curriculum for an assigned program and age range of children.
  • Prepare and maintain a safe, attractive, neat, and functional environment, both indoors and outdoors, and utilize the environment as a teaching tool.
  • Support lead and assistant teachers with daily documentation.
  • Assist program staff with lunch and break time schedules.
  • Assist with bottle preparation and preparing snacks.
  • Form a positive, supportive team atmosphere with other program teachers and staff members.
5% Other Duties As Assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Experience caring for children 0-5 years old
  • Demonstrable contributions to promoting and enhancing diversity
  • Food Handler’s Certification
  • Oregon DELC Background Clearance- Criminal Background Registry (CBR)
  • Adult & Pediatric CPR, First Aid, AED within 90 day of employment
  • OSU Background Clearance

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Experience in a licensed early care and education center
  • Previous or current college courses in Early Childhood Education, Early Education, Human Development and Family Sciences, Special Education, or related field.
