Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Outreach Assistant positions for the College of Education at Oregon State University (OSU).

These positions represent the College of Education at various university and recruitment events that support the college. They also work with college faculty and staff to create and provide student engagement and community building opportunities.

This position provides excellent service and support for the prospective and current students, staff, faculty, visitors, and administration of the College of Education. This position supports several advising, outreach, and student service activities, as requested.

About the College of Education

The College of Education contributes to major national dialogues concerning research and the promotion of social justice in (1) the success of English language learners of all ages; (2) developmentally appropriate pedagogy for all ages; (3) learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics inside and outside of school; (4) the preparation of mental health and school counselors; (5) adult and higher education leadership. We develop change agents in the form of formal and informal educators, counselors, and leaders. These change agents identify issues and act towards social justice and the full development of human potential and society.

As a part of the Division of Arts and Sciences we support the division’s campus-wide role in providing a well-rounded, compelling educational experience. Our work seeks to enhance and extend the historic democratic mission of public education: to prepare all citizens, across their lifetime for full participation in a culturally diverse and technical world. This position, as with all positions within the College of Education, is directly responsible for advancing the mission of the College.

Position Duties
Ambassadors perform some or all of the following duties:
  • Participate and support recruitment activities for College of Education programs.
  • Meet with prospective students to answer general questions about College of Education major (new to OSU students or OSU students changing majors).
  • Provide general peer advising for current education students and support new student orientation advising and registration.
  • Plan and support College of Education events each term, with particular focus on events that promote community building and belonging, student success, and preparing for progressing through teacher education programs.
  • Offer peer tutoring for subject exams and student teaching preparation and support.
  • Assist with peer mentoring programs, such as with training, development and event coordination or other duties as requested
  • Assist programs and student success staff with recruitment activities, student presentations, and other projects to support student success.
  • Provide office support for the Undergraduate Student Success office, including managing live chat, email, phone, and general reception duties.
  • General office work or other projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

College ambassadors must be enrolled in one of the following College of Education programs:
  • BA/BS in Pre-Education or Education student (major code 232 or 233)
  • BA/BS in Pre-Secondary Education or Secondary Education (major code A040 or A041)
  • BS in Pre-Teaching or Teaching (major code 056 or 057)
  • BA/BS in Pre-Elementary Education or Elementary Education (major code A038 or A037)
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Bilingual/Multilingual or experience with bilingual/multilingual students, employees, or co-workers.
  • Experience in customer service or working with students
  • Familiar with or experience using technology tools such as Microsoft Office 365, Canva, etc.
  • Public speaking and social media experience.
