Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Academic Tutor positions for Oregon State University-Cascades (OSU) for AY 25/26.

As an Academic Tutor, you will provide academic support to fellow university students by helping them understand course material, develop effective study strategies, and improve their academic skills. You will work one-on-one or in small groups, tailoring your approach to meet the specific needs of each student. This role requires strong communication skills, subject matter expertise, and a supportive attitude. Academic Tutors play a vital role in fostering the collaborative learning environment and enhancing the academic success of their peers.

Position Duties
  • Offer one-on-one or group tutoring sessions in specific subjects to help students grasp difficult concepts.
  • Assist students in developing effective study habits and time management skills.
  • Provide constructive feedback and recommend additional resources or strategies.
  • Respect students’ privacy and maintain confidentiality of personal information.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to understand course objectives and stay updated on curriculum changes.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, including topics covered, and time spent.
  • Inform students about available academic resources.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance tutoring skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Must be a current student in good academic standing an OSU-Cascades.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject(s) to be tutored, typically through high grades or faculty recommendations.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, concise, and relatable manner.
  • Ability to build rapport with peers, demonstrate patience and foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to maintaining scheduled tutoring sessions.
  • Ability to assess student needs and adapt tutoring methods to address specific learning challenges.
  • Willingness to accommodate different learning styles and schedules.
