Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time Beaver Dam Team Member positions for the Housing & Dining department at OSU-Cascades located in Bend, OR. Hiring happens throughout the year.
This position’s starting pay is $16.30/hour, with the chance to earn raises throughout the academic year. Based on your experience, class schedule, and department needs, you may be scheduled at Study Grounds, the Beaver Dam, or both.
Student employees are expected to be available to work from the first day of each academic term through the last day of the term, including Week 0 & Finals Week. You are not required to work during breaks between terms, but hours may be available to those that want them. Most students work 10–20 hours per week, with the option to work up to 24 hours, if desired.

Position Duties
  • Provide exceptional friendly and attentive customer service in a fast paced environment.
  • Assist customers and answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, the location of retail items, and current prices.
  • Provide cashiering and cash handling duties for customer transactions.
  • Make and/or stock beverages, retail and grab-n-go items, etc.
  • Learn to cook and prepare menu items (will require the use of kitchen equipment including knife usage) consistently for all customers by following all recipe and presentation standards according to the recipe guide(s).
  • Appropriately portion, assemble and serve menu items to order.
  • Assist with caterings and related work as needed.
  • Assist in dish washing, equipment sanitation, and daily cleaning tasks. Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area including all service and seating areas.
  • Takes initiative and follows guidelines without supervisory direction when needed.
  • All employees are regularly re-assigned as needed to assist in other work areas on occasions when a location is short staffed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Must have a valid Oregon Food Handler’s Permit or be able to obtain a permit within the first week of work.

  • Easily engages with customers in a friendly and outgoing manner.
  • Excellent customer service skills in a fast paced atmosphere.
  • Must be team-oriented.
  • Takes initiative and follows guidelines without supervisory direction when needed.
  • Must be able to acclimate to a change in speed of service and amount of workload within a moment’s notice.
  • Flexible availability including weekends, mornings, and nights around your school schedule that you provide to your supervisor before beginning work and before each new term. Schedule each term will be determined by supervisor around classes.
  • Previous food service, barista or customer service experience a plus, but not required.

  • This position typically has a consistent schedule each term. It is always built around your class schedule.
  • Good attendance is crucial for stability and day to day business needs.
  • Must follow given schedule and be on time in uniform, when shift begins.
  • Requires walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods. May require maneuvering heavy objects up to 50 lbs. Employees may experience long periods of standing on a hard floor, working with commercial kitchen equipment, fluctuation in workflow, temperature and noise level.
  • Able to engage with customers, while still performing tasks that need to be completed. Must be self-motivated during all business hours. Must be able to accurately follow daily opening, mid-day, and closing procedures.
  • Uniform requirement — clean blue denim jeans or earth-tone pants (no holes, tears, leggings, etc.) are required and must be provided by employee. Shirts and a hat will be provided to you by Dining Management. More detailed information in handbook given upon hiring.
