Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill four (4) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Recruitment and Outreach Assistant for the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University (OSU).

The primary duty will be to assist with undergraduate student recruitment activities. This position may also support the FST administrative team and department personnel. Training will be provided for assigned duties.

Position Duties
70% – Student Recruitment and Outreach
  • Support on-campus student camps and events by facilitating hands-on food science activities.
  • Represent the Food Science and Sustainable Technologies (FSST) undergraduate program at recruitment events both on and off campus, which may include occasional travel, evenings, or weekends.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of FSST undergraduate recruitment events.
  • Engage with prospective and admitted students through handwritten note cards, phone calls, and email to encourage enrollment and answer program-related questions.
  • Maintain contact with students post-registration to support engagement and retention.
  • Assist in the production of recruitment materials, including printing, cutting, and folding.
  • Assemble informational packets for prospective students.
  • Serve as an FSST program ambassador by providing program information, leading tours of Wiegand and Withycombe Halls, and highlighting research activities within the facilities.
30% – Student Office Assistant
  • Assist with package deliveries, check in shipments, and notify recipients; distribute departmental mail.
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up for departmental meetings and events.
  • Help with hanging posters, and maintaining bulletin boards in Wiegand and Withycombe Halls.
  • Perform general office support tasks such as restocking the copier, recycling cardboard, and organizing items for surplus.
  • Complete other administrative projects and tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Must be a current student in the Food Science and Sustainable Technologies (FSST) program.
  • Comfortable speaking with and presenting to prospective students and their families or guardians.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to off-campus locations for recruitment activities using OSU motor pool vehicles.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • Previous involvement in FSST or Food and Fermentation Club experiential learning opportunities.
  • Familiarity with FSST undergraduate program structure and degree requirements.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working in a shared office space with frequent distractions.
