The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is proud to be the leading UK charity devoted solely to the conservation of bats and their habitats. Our vision is a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together. BCT has been running the National Bat Monitoring Programme (NBMP) since 1996, making it the longest running multi-species monitoring programme for mammals in the UK. The NBMP currently produces statistically robust population trends for 11 of the UK’s 17 breeding bat species. Since 1996 more than 4600 volunteers have taken part in our surveys at over 7600 roost or field sites around the UK.

We are recruiting for someone to fill the role of NBMP Survey Coordinator for 4 days per week, from January 2027 to February 2028, while our Survey Officer is in another maternity cover role during this period. The key purposes of the role are to:

  • Work with the Monitoring Manager and the Head of Monitoring and Science to manage and administer the National Bat Monitoring Programme (NBMP) on a day-to-day basis to ensure the smooth running of the programme.
  • Manage two part-time, fixed-term members of the team, the Survey and Training Support Officer and the Volunteer Engagement Officer, and support them in organising our programme of training workshops and engaging audiences from diverse backgrounds.
  • Provide an efficient service to volunteers taking part in the National Bat Monitoring Programme, through liaison with volunteers, maintenance of the volunteer database, provision of support material for surveys, input of returned data and general project administration.
