Ever surveyed bats from 40 metres up? At Co-ecology we pioneered BATS (Bats & Aerial Thermal Surveys), using drones with thermal sensors to survey bats at night, and we map habitats at landscape scale from the air. We’re looking for a Senior Ecologist to help contribute to and develop that work.

About us

We’re an independent, technically focused consultancy working on tourism, heritage, residential, infrastructure and commercial projects across the south-east and the UK. Our mission is simple: build wildlife and biodiversity into every project and deliver real conservation gains, not box-ticking.

Co-ecology are an equitable organisation, every member of the team shares in our profits and can contribute to our growth and direction.

What you’ll do

  • Lead protected species and UKHab surveys, and design survey programmes
  • Write, review and sign off PEAs, EcIAs, and BNG assessments
  • Manage projects from proposal to delivery, and be the client’s main technical contact
  • Mentor junior ecologists
  • Help shape how we use new and emerging technologies
  • Lead or support protected species licence applications

What you’ll bring

  • Consultancy experience at senior level, or as an Ecologist ready to step up
  • Sound knowledge of UK wildlife law and planning policy, and good field ID skills including botany
  • Clear, confident report writing
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ideally: CIEEM membership and protected species licences

Don’t tick every box? Apply anyway. We’d rather talk than miss you.

What we offer

  • £33-42k depending on experience, a relevant gift on passing probation, plus a signing-on bonus after six months
  • Profit-related bonus, shared equally across the team
  • Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays; pension: 5% raising to 6% after three years’ service
  • Attractive office in a rural location
  • Strict control on working hours, additional time repaid as either TOIL or overtime
  • CIEEM membership and licence fees paid; £750 training budget and funded conference attendance
