Only One runs campaigns that change minds — and shape policy. Our international team of experts specializes in strategic communications, movement building, and public advocacy to drive impactful ocean and climate policy worldwide. Our philanthropically funded work aims to complement and enhance the efforts of others — both globally and in targeted regions — to restore ocean health for all and realize the ocean’s potential as a climate solution.

About our marketing team

The marketing team operates as a small in-house agency supporting our campaigns team, focused on building powerful creative collateral, clear messaging, and effective delivery across campaigns. We work horizontally, with leads for messaging, design, production, content, and distribution (media buy), supported by a flexible network of contractors. We partner closely with the campaigns team, who lead strategic advocacy direction, political positioning, and partnerships. Our role is to translate the campaigns program into content and engagement strategies that move audiences. We work on multiple campaigns at a time and on tight timelines, prioritizing collaboration, experimentation, and operational clarity.

Job summary

We’re hiring a Director of Marketing to help us scale and optimize our marketing operations while maintaining the clarity, responsiveness, and strategic depth that define our work. This is a senior generalist role, part strategist, part creative direction, with a strong project manager component designed to bring additional capacity and perspective to how we run and evolve our campaigns.

This is a new full-time position within the marketing team. You’ll report to the head of marketing and work closely with our internal team (design, creative, content, research, production) as well as external partners. You’ll help us run faster, sharpen delivery, and explore new tactics, all while keeping execution grounded in strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end delivery of marketing initiatives for a portfolio of campaigns, from planning through execution.
  • Lead project management across those campaigns: timelines, workstreams, internal coordination, external handoffs
  • Act as primary marketing point of contact for selected partners, working with them to develop briefs, deliverables, and timelines
  • Offer strategic support to the team on creative development, message alignment and distribution.
  • Identify and scope opportunities to test new formats, channels, or creative strategies
  • Track key milestones, workflows, and delivery metrics to help the team stay focused and improve over time
  • Share learnings and support playbook evolution across campaigns

What we’re looking for

  • Strong experience in marketing campaign execution, working with media buyers, and creative production
  • Experience leading outside-the-box marketing campaigns or audience mobilization efforts, particularly beyond traditional media and formats
  • Good understanding in media strategies and media buy (both in digital marketing and traditional media).
  • A sharp sense of what makes content effective in cross-channel digital environments as well as traditional media (print, OOH, etc)
  • Familiarity with creative development processes and digital production timelines
  • Experience managing or collaborating with external creative/media partners and working in agency-like organizations and managing different sets of contractors
  • A collaborative style — you’re comfortable leading, but know when to ask, support, and adapt
  • Excellent project management, communication, and coordination skills. You know how to keep things moving and align people.

Why this role matters

We’ve grown quickly, and we’re working across more campaigns, timelines, and platforms than ever before. This hire helps us stay ahead of that growth without compromising on quality or clarity. You’ll bring structure, speed, and a new perspective, allowing the rest of the team to focus deeply on what they do best, while unlocking more opportunities for impact and experimentation across the board.
