Oceans 5 Overview: Oceans 5 is the world’s leading strategic regranting organization targeting ocean conservation. Since 2011, the organization has provided about $160 million in grants to more than 130 organizations in 50 countries to establish marine protected areas, stop overfishing, and constrain offshore oil and gas development. Its activities are directed by a Board of Advisors that include 25 philanthropic institutions. It also currently houses and manages three separate directed funds aligned with its mission at the request of its donors. These funds include the Joint 30x30 Funding Initiative, the Bloomberg Ocean Fund, and the Ocean Climate Diplomacy Initiative.

Oceans 5 works closely with civil society and Indigenous organizations to design collaborative projects and campaigns to influence government decisions through advocacy, research, communications, and capacity building, often leveraging opportunities presented by new elections, appointments, and policy changes. Oceans 5 grantees have a remarkable record of accomplishment, having been instrumental in the most impactful ocean conservation initiatives of the past decade.
