The Federal Policy Manager serves as the federal policy lead for Oceana’s campaigns to save the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale, promote responsible management of marine fisheries, and defend conservation laws from rollbacks. The Federal Policy Manager will lead federal advocacy efforts with Congress and the executive branch, in coordination with the campaign director. The Federal Policy Manager will develop advocacy strategies and materials; coordinate with external coalition partners and internal teammates across Oceana’s field, communications, science, policy, and legal teams; and persuasively represent Oceana’s priorities and campaign objectives to key decision makers. This position is based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid schedule of Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday in the office and the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.
Strong candidates for this position will have a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of government relations, advocacy, or legislative experience—or a comparable combination of experience and education. The ideal candidate has knowledge or strong interest in ocean conservation, experience developing and implementing strategies to win advocacy campaigns, a collaborative work style, and excellent communications skills.
