Are you passionate about the oceans, scientific research, and data analysis with experience in ocean ecosystems and fisheries? Do you want to make a difference protecting and restoring the abundance of the oceans to combat climate change and ensure that coastal communities can thrive? Come join a dedicated team of professionals who are working to protect our oceans.
Founded in 2001, Oceana is the world’s largest nonprofit organization focused solely on restoring the resilience and abundance of the ocean. We achieve measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and clear goals. Our campaigns focus on getting policy changes in countries that govern more than one-quarter of the world’s wild-caught fish.
The Science & Strategy Fellow – a key member of Oceana’s Science & Strategy team – facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing among our 10 international offices and 50+ scientific staff, helps ensure the accuracy and credibility of internal and external materials, and supports research and metrics tracking to help achieve Oceana’s mission. Our team values diversity in backgrounds and experiences and we strive to build on and complement each other’s skills to create an inclusive and supportive team that together can fulfill a wide range of objectives and responsibilities for the organization.
The ideal candidate has a master’s degree in marine science or a related field (or equivalent qualifications) and has experience working and building relationships across different cultures and/or multiple disciplines/backgrounds. The Fellow will provide technical research on key topics such as habitat protection and biodiversity; collect and synthesize data from a variety or sources; write, edit, and present materials for internal and external audiences; and support scientific review across the organization, all in support of Oceana’s campaign goals.
Oceana values a diverse workforce and welcomes people different from each other in many ways, including characteristics such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, and national origin. Oceana considers all qualified candidates and seeks to recruit from a diverse candidate pool.
